I regret using this NG for personal reasons ...
I had some misunderstanding with a member ...
English is not my native language, so it's possible that I said
something that made someone upset ...
I tried to explain but emails had no answer and regular mail came
back ... :-(
Since my comments were only about Postal Service (and not about the
member) I have some difficult to understand the situation, but I
respect everyone's opinion.
I dislike being "in war" ... but so the story goes ...
I apologize for that ... I beg pardon if my ironic or humoristic tone
isn't well accepted ...
Sincerely

Vincenzo

First off, if you have some kind of misunderstanding...
a simple apology is sufficient. If that does not do the trick...
forget the incident and move on. Attempts of dialog with an unreasonable
person will do nothing but make the situation worse.

One thing about text-only is it's often very difficult to see if someone
is just making a comment in jest...or if they mean it seriously.

It is sometimes necessary to intersperse parenthetical "asides"

such as <grin> or /sarcasm/

Many years ago I got an email from a guy on an obsolete computer group
and I got very upset with his comments...
and almost sent him a very rude response...

but for whatever reason...I did not send my reply until I re-read his
comments about 3 or 4 times.

Then I started to laugh...because he was just kidding around with me...
and the real funny thing is...he was kidding around in exactly the same
kind of manner how I usually kid around.

I got to see why many people got upset when I was simply trying to
tell a joke.

Or as my fianc always reminds me "a *bad* joke" !

Oiiiuuyy, a foreign language can be a dangerous weapon, not to speak of the
mother tongue. I don't know who can be the exception, I never met one.

In my observation this group actually well appreciates pointed ironic or
humoristic notes. An occasional visitor may sometimes witness seemingly
"unintelligible" conversations, however, you can never know who else is
listening to ...;)
