All (better) Eizo monitors have a "maintenance port" at the rear. This
is a serial link, which enables access of the internal processor. Eizo
supplies a software to comfortably set the monitor parameters via serial
port ... but missed to give the cable pinout. The port in the monitor is
an Apple-style round 8-pin DIN ... but how's the wiring of the cable
going ?
Anyone has a wiring plan ?
Peter in Germany
How about an Eizo cable: will it do? :-D
I will check out the one I have and post/send a pinout diagram
back to this thread. It probably will not be before Thursday
or Friday night, though.
BTW: the round mini port connector is "neither fish nor fowl";
i.e.: neither PS/2 nor Apple; so this might make for a hard
time getting the connector to use in a cable makeup.
Hope this helps,
John Johnson

Oh - great idea - thanks. :-D
I tried that - and it was a pretty longish debate until they even understand
what I wanted.
"Ask your dealer" they said.
"I *am* the dealer" I replied.
Stunned quietness.
"So what ?" I asked.
"Sorry - I think we can't help you any further. Ask your distributer."
Aargh. I take "Incompetence 100" and want to solve the puzzle ... I even gave
them the Eizo partnumber.

That weren't bad.

Nope. The HP PhotoSmart uses the same plug - and the old M$ bus mouse - and
some short Multi-I/O cards as well. So I have a serial cable already (wired 1-1
however from 8-pin Mini-DIN to 9-pin Sub-D)

And so it is (along with the Logitech "Bus Mouse"): just didn't
recognize it. :-D

OK: here we go (please pardon my ASCII drawing :-D):
(View is "Business End" of connectors)
9-Pin D-Sub 8-Pin Mini-DIN
------------- _________
\ 1 2 3 4 5 / | 1 2 3 |
\ 6 7 8 9 / ( 4 5 6 )
------- >7 8 <
1 connects 5
2 connects 7
3 connects 4
4 connects 6
5 no connection x
6 no connection x
7 connects 8
8 connects 1
9 connects 8 <--{"Yes": it is #8 again :-)}
Hope this helps,

Thanks for the wiring diagram. However: the 8-pin DIN plugs I have are numbered
different. If you look into the plug from the pin-side it is marked
---------
6 7 8
3 4 5
1 2
Funny, eh ? Comes even better.
I got a mail from John W. Sturman in the meantime with a graphic (most likely
scanned from Eizo manual), which numbers the pins also with 1 & 2 at the
bottom.
Whatever: pin 5 on the Sub-D-9 is usually GND - and that is not connected ?
Hmmm. A bit confusing.
Here's how the "naming" on the Sub-D runs (left) and the corresponding pins on
the 8-pin (right) that I found in an I/O-card manual, the ones marked with (*)
show up in the manual graphic as well:
1 = DCD 8
2 = RXD 5*
3 = TXD 3*
4 = DTR 1
5 = GND Shield(I/O) or 4* (HP / Eizo)
6 = DSR 7
7 = RTS 6*
8 = CTS 2*
9 = RI 4(I/O) N.A. (HP)
I must confess - I am a bit puzzled. The "loopback" on pin 8 (according to your
scheme) would connect RTS to RI (7 & 9 on the Sub-D) to pin 1 (my counting),
which is DTR ... pin 5 (GND on the Sub-D) really attaches to nothing ... ?
Ugh !
"Houston - we have a problem !" ...
I tried my HP PhotoSmart cable - but it turns out that this cable lacks the
RTS-wire. They only use RXD TXD, a handshake on DSR / DTR and CTS from the
camera to signal the current status - but not RTS (which is a bit
inconsequent).
Now: the EIZO uses CTS/RTS handshake and RXD/TXD plus GND as it seems. Damned -
why aren't these f*#%&$ng serial ports standardized !
