Pardon me, mon frers, but what does this adapter do from it's
designation as a "management" adapter?

Drink coffee, smoke cigarettes, and make passes at the office help?

I attempted to findt it via sales, but the P/N and FRU did not get hits.

Part Number: 34L5099
FRU: 35P5409

Most "management" adapters I'm familiar with can wake the system from
sleep, power it up, possibly perform a reset of the machine or collect
DMI (desktop management interface IIRC) data for auditing purposes.
Many of these adapters also have a RIPL ROM on them.

3Com sells a number of Etherlink boards that are branded as being "for
complete PC management". I have a couple of these.
