There are a couple of things:-
- I want to hook up a KVM to my 9590 - will it work? - i have had a look
through the archives, but am still not sure.
- What are the differences between the Cheetah and Passplay? What about
performance differences? Can you put them in a 9590?
- Does anyone have a P90 complex? I really would like to get using this machine
as my main workstation, but leaving it as a Type 2 xLx complex limits what i
can do on it. Also, other parts like RAM and maybe SCSI RAID adapters.
- Could someone tell me the "going rates" (if there are any?) of the parts i
mentioned above?
Thanks, Alex Burke.
Job for Tim Clarke or Bob Eager.

Cheetah supports Int13 and you can boot off it. Passplay is kinda retro,
but you can play with the ability to load it up with 64MB of cache. The
Passplay will not work as the IML source, so you either need a Type 4
complex, the T1 Upgrade DX2-66, or you need a seperate SCSI controller
with a HD on it for the IML source.
Will the Passplay fit in the 90? Never tried it. The Cheetah will.
You should be able to findt a P60 or P66 complex. Plewe on eebay seems
to have them on a regular basis.

Charles Lasitter who contributes here has the goodies for 90's/95's including
complexes, original manuals, the rarer SCSI cables....and even new 'feet' for the
'95!.....give him a try! The 90Mhz complexes are a rare and expensive commodity
these days.....

Only a couple? You must be feeling tired. 8^)

Manual switch, yes. "Intelligent" switch - very mfr.-specific - avoid newer
Belkins (F1D1nn or higher) like the plague, no workee.

Passplay is a honking great Form Factor 5 adapter (taller than the 9590
case) so won't fit in anything other than the 3 "extended height" adapter
slots in a 95,

or in the big case PC Servers etc.

Yes, but you know I'm not likely to split it out of the 9595(A) that it's
in, you still have a tenner's credit with me.

Well, I have spare Passplays, a 9577 Lacuna (which might take a Passplay,
I'd have to check) spare 95A RAID bays (one will fit into a 9577, a la
Server 77) and trays. Spare 9595 or 9595A with P90 - you name it, I can
probably "build" it from parts/spares. If "the price is right".
Personally, I would *not* recommend pushing the 90's PSU with *both* a (no
doubt soon to be upgraded) P90 complex *and* a full RAID setup. There's a
reason IBM never made a "Server 90". Too marginal on the tolerances.

A couple of "thanks" are in order.
1st -- For remembering I existed. For the past year my
involvement with PS/2s has seemed to have been limited
to moving them or giving them away!
I've finally finished my relocation from the Sunny South to the
smallest state. Give me a another year to sort things out
and I may even be able to find something ...
What a draining process. Ended up giving 50 machines (mostly
8595 / 9595 and 9557) to Dave Young (SUPRDAVE) alone, because
I didn't want to rip them or dump them and he would at least
TAKE them.
Still gave away plenty of other systems, and got the total "haul"
down to around 130 or so. Crammed to the gills with systems
here, so if you know any budding enthusiasts in New England --
wow, have I got a local pickup deal for them!
2nd -- Thanks for getting the last name spelling right.
Happens infrequently enough that it's a bit of an 'event' in
itself. :)

No worries, have been very happy with the couple of Ebay items i got from
you a long while ago (that was before i discovered the newsgroup)

If you're feeling brave, put the better 95's on Ebay, they are fetching a
halfway decent price these days......here's a recent example....

I actually originate from 'Olde' England (emigrated almost 4 years ago),
unfortunately I'm way over west in northern CA just a spit from 'the valley'

With you on the name thing.....I've had almost 35 years of mis-spellings of
mine.
When i need some more bits and pieces I'll let you know.
Take it easy

If Charles can't help or doesn't want to split a system, I have a couple of
95A planars for sale/trade. I'd offer you a 9595(A) too but shipping would
be uneconomic for a whole System Unit.

Hope you understand that I'm not trying to steal business from you, just
indicating an alternative source and letting anyone else (Europe or
U.K.-based) know what the availability is.

Any earnest contributors to the cause that can figure out how
to turn a buck on this stuff now and then have my blessing!
(As if they needed it ... :)

Expect to see some of mine on eBay.co.uk soon. S&H will be a labour of love
to reduce to the minimum necessary for any overseas shipment, but I'm game.
So no "U.K.-only" restrictions, but collect from Guildford will be cheapest.
