Yes I have. Do you have the EISA/PCI or the MCA/PCI version?
I have had Mandrake's, Slackware's and Redhat's on both the EISA and MCA
versions, but I was using Adaptec controllers. It seems that there have
been a lot of postings related to problems with Mylex controllers and
Linux. Perhaps a google search would be helpful.

I've got the EISA/PCI version, and the Mylex controller.
I've been searching with google, but no result.
So, using an other controller would help.?

Try the search again. I typed "Mylex DAC960" + Linux and got 1380 hits,
and none of the first few I read seemed to encouraging about that
particular controller. Is it a RAID controller or just a regular scsi
controller? Either way, I think getting your hands on something like an
adaptec 2940 or a Tekram DC390 would be better. Both worked flawlessly
for me.

Boo!

Check this group. About a month ago under 520 and DAC960. I'm
still having problems with my setup.. (grr...)

The linux driver for the DAC is built and documented here:
http://www.dandelion.com/Linux/README.DAC960

The Mylex DAC960 is supposedly supported. Unfortunately you have
to flash the firmware to version 2.73 which is obtainable from
the Mylex website, IBM leaves you stranded with the maximum
version of 2.43.

If your controller has two firmware chips onboard, you have to go
to the 3.x series firmware. Mylex website again.

Also, at least the Debian 3.0r0 installer disks do not originally
support firmware revision 2.x having a slightly older version of
the driver that needs firmware 3.x to run. Kernel sources and
compile time...

I suspect that the problems on my 520 have something to do with
the MCA-bus. If you get your EISA-box to function, please tell
us.

That did the magic thing.
I got it to work now on my IBM 320 server with DAC960P controller
firmware 2.73 flashed on it.
And just with the DAC960 driver in the 2.4.20 kernel.
( not with the driver http://www.dandelion.com/Linux/DAC960.html )
I didn't even tried that one.

5x4.3 scsi hd's in raid working on debian with a 2.4.20 kernel.

EISA/PCI version of the ibm 320 server.
dual pentium-100mhz and 256 mb ram.

thank you for helping out

Congratulations

Nice to know that the setup is working. Now I have a question for
you. Which distro are you using?

I installed an IDE hd in the system first, and installed Debian 3 from the internet on it.
just the base system and some tools to compile kernels.
downloaded the 2.4.20 kernel and started working on it.

the thing *is* booting off the raid at this point, right? Did you
have to give any special boot parameters for the DAC960?
