I had a mate who used to work at Sperry - New Holland. He would have loved
that one. I especially like the "steering wheels" and as for Fortran being
easy to use???

Doesn't look all that much different than a powerplant control room as
recently as the mid '90s.

But I'm curious what they thought the handwheel might be used for ? It
looks very much like the ones used on large industrial valves or on
watertight doors onboard ships.

A lot.
Few of us could afford such an impressive piece of hardware.
Commercial types were made from Bakelite or molded plastic most likely.
That one looks as if it had a cousin in the army (marine) at least.

That what it would be today. But back then ?
Maybe it is an early incarnation of a "force feedback console" ?
Intended to play "Cannonboat" ... ?
(that would explain the lot of the instruments as well)

Actually, I never really went anywhere, just decided to "monitor" the
proceedings daily without contributing. Still got the herd of fine PS/2
machines patiently awaiting awakening..........

I wonder if the whole thing was merely a "fake mockup", not really capable
of even beeping.

:-)

Ah, but remember, these people were "predicting " the future, so maybe MS
was in their collective Krystle balls. ( Sorry, couldn't resist, my
daughters name is spelled that way. )

Good point. I figured the dials were to monitor oil pressure and coolant
temp.

Sincere regards Peter !

Am I the only one who thinks it looks incredibly fake? The teletype and
the so-called monitor (which looks more like a TV!) don't seem right.
Something about the lighting, angles and overall differences in
sharpness between the components. I think the person was inserted too.

Look to the left above the "monitor". It appears to be a light source.
Look at the shadow from the monitor. Not very convincing.

Oh ... now, as you're mentioning it ... look at the left side of the
teletype. And the paper hangs right trough the machine, but leaves it in
front. Additionally, has someone seen a teletype or line printer where
the paper exits in front. Uh, and how big the keyboard is! *lol*

If it isn't a complete fake, it was at least an early retouche, not a
real mock-up. No doubt.

The whole thing is a fake of course.

Just have a look at the teletype keyboard. It is stretched to fit the
view angle of the background. The wallhanging TV is also pasted. The
shadowing does not fit at all.

But on first sight it looks quite ... err ... laughable :-)
I'd knew that you would love it.

Isn't that an old console television HANGING from the wall?

The teletype machine...who has hands big enough to type on that thing?
I bet Steve Wonder would have a ball with that...too bad he's blind, he
could watch Leave it to Beaver on that console television.

And the wheel, isn't that used to control the cooling system of the
integrated nuclear reactor, that no doubt houses by 2004 would all have? :)

The only thing I see missing is the ability for it to fly-- that would
have been what sold me.

Wow, I was close-- after seeing someone else's post, this IS a control
center for a NUCLEAR SUBMARINE!

Simple. Just by surfing the darker edges of the 'net.
Did you look at their main page www.entensity.net ?
Lots of oddities and silly jokes & pictures.
One of them was referenced from another guy I know.
