I can't get my Yamaha PSR-520 to talk with my computer at all. I'm using
the approved Creative cable. Under the Multimedia/MIDI options I have
AudioPCI MIDI Out selected..The other option is AudioPCI MIDI Synth which is
for the card's internal wavetable....I have my MIDI IN to OUT and OUT to IN,
as I know is correct (I've tried it vice versa as well, and of course, that
doesn't work), and have it plugged into the gameport....Everything seems to
be set up correctly, but it just doesn't work....I have tried my keyboard on
an old Sound Blaster 16, and my friend's new Soundblaster Live and it fails
on both of those as well...However, if I turn my keyboards "Local" off
(which means the tone generator doesn't respond to the keys being hit, only
to MIDI data coming in through the MIDI IN) and I plug a regular MIDI cable
from the keyboard's OUT to its IN, it works, and unplugged, it doesn't, just
as expected...So it seems like my keyboard's MIDI is working just fine....

Any ideas as to what my problem might be?? Thanks...

Make sure that the Midi Sequencing software, Cakewalk or whatever, has Midi
Echo or Midi Thru turned on. That will allow the Midi signal from your
keyboard to pass through the computer and back to the keyboard.
