If you get a set of Creative 2.1 speakers, they have a remote volume
control. On that is a headphone socket. Sorts all your problems
regardless of soundcard.

How expensive would the cans be? I'm using a Sennheiser 580 with a
HT Omega Claro plus soundcard; price of the HT Omega is about $180-$200
at NewEgg; the 580 was a discounted from Amazon when the newer 600 model
came out. Sounds wonderful for me & much better than the Creative
xfi audio for music.
Connected to my audio system via a 35 foot optical cable to hear music
from the web on stations that run at either 192 up to 320 kps (for the
music types I prefer). I do have old powered 2.1 speakers for the computer
which is use for the "sedate" games I play.
