I recently re-installed Win95 on my machine, and now my CD-ROM seems
to work only occasionally when playing music CDs. I have NO problems
with data CDs, but I can install a music CD, launch the CD player
(either the Win95 CD player or the Creative CD deck, it doesn't
matter), and it'll work fine. I close down the CD player and relaunch,
and it won't recognize the music format (says: "Data or no disc
loaded").

I removed and deleted all my SB drivers and reinstalled, and no
change. I removed AutoPlay, but no change. I put AutoPlay back in, no
change. I don't even know where else to look, especially since its
intermittent.

Any suggestions welcome. Please forward an e-mail copy of all posts to
me, so I won't miss them. Thanks!

Daryl

Daryl, this sounds like the CDROM interface driver problem. Where
do you have your CD connected to? If it is connected to the standard
(E)IDE interface, you might want to get the latest version of the driver
somewhere. I used to have a similar problem that was related to the
IDE driver in my old computer. The problem is that the driver doesn't
recognize a new disc loaded in, and therefore the CDROM status goes
stale.. If you're using the SB's IDE interface, I would recommend
removing it and putting the CDROM on a free IDE interface.. Good luck!
