Hi,

recently, I installed Dos 6 alongside my Linux partition to be able to
play old Dos games like Commander Keen. I found a driver and SB emulator
to get sound with the Ensoniq ES 1371 sound card on the following URL:

http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/45/45804.htm

Initially, I did not have any documentation. In an earlier request at
the end of last year, I asked the same question and received documentation.
This confirmed what I already supposed based on various bits of information
on USENET and the web. Further, this documentation is based on DOS mode
for Windows 95. I do not have Windows 95, I don't even have Windows 3.1.
I have set the BLASTER and SNDSCAPE variables like this in autoexec.bat:

SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T2 (I5 or I6 doesn't work either)
SET SNDSCAPE=C:\SOUND

...and I load APINIT.COM...

C:\SOUND\APINIT.COM

... it hangs after having printed some version information, so I do not
get to run APLOAD.EXE.

May it be because I don't have a waveset? In sndscape.ini, the following
line occurs: SynthFile=c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\default.ecw. I do not have WINDOWS.
Well, I do not have this file.

Does someone know whether it is possible at all to use
Ensoniq AudioPCI ES 1371 under *pure* DOS?
I hope someone can help me out!

yours,
Gerrit Holl.

P.S.
a CC to my email address would be appreciated (not really necessary)

Here's an 8MB waveset:

http://drivers.zitech.dk/Lydkort/370137%20-%20Creative%20Sound%20Blaster%20Pci%20128/wavesets/8mb/Eapci8m.zip

You can rename it to "default.ecw" or simply change the line in your "sndscape.ini".

Anyway, digital sound should work even without a waveset.
