Would like one pair of headphones connnected to 4 PCs.

I've heard of KVM (with audio) devices, but perhaps that's overkill
for my requirement.

Any ideas gratefully received, best regards, Robert.

Well, you could always build your own. Depending on what you figure
your time is worth, that might be even more overkill than the KVM
approach. But it's conceptually simple. You just need a 4 position,
2 pole (one deck for each channel) rotary switch and 5 stereo jacks,
plus a small box to house it all.

Best regards,

I use an AV receiver for this kind of thing. I have my two consoles
and my PC's two soundcards hooked up to my receiver. A new receiver
might cost more than expensive than a KVM with audio support, but a used
receiver should be cheaper and easier to find.

Thanks for your interesting suggestion. Would an electronics shop (in
the UK we have a chain of stores called "Maplin") have these items?
I've never built any electronics gadget before, I've only assembled a
PC from components.

Never been to Maplin (nor the UK, more's the pity!) but from what I've
heard of Maplin they will almost certainly have these items. If you
explain what you want to do, I suspect the people there could help you
select the right parts. Note, however, that you will need to be able
to solder. If you don't already have the tools and skills, Maplin can
help with a soldering iron and solder, but you should spend a fair
amount of time practicing your soldering technique before you tackle
the real project. You'll also need to drill holes in the project case
to mount the jacks and switch. And a cheap DMM (Digital Multi-Meter)
will be handy (on the Ohms range) for figuring out which pin on the
switch or jack goes where, and checking your final wiring.

The KVM might be looking better and better, but on the other hand this
project might get you started on a whole new hobby... <g>
