I just bought a used AST Six Pack Plus for a few bucks, w/
3 banks of 64k ram installed.

I didnt get a book, and I think the card is causing some kind of
address conflict (overlap?) when i install it...

Could someone please inform me on what the settings of the 8
dip switches on the card do?

Thanks!

Steve

It depends on which type you have. There are 4 types. Where is the
battery located on the card? Is it just to the right of center and near
the bottom? What is the battery type? If nobody has already e-mailed the
info to you, let me know the answers to the battery questions and I will
look up the info I have from the AST Info-FAXes.

Steve,

Here is some AST information:

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Info-FAX (714) 727-4773 (last time I called - may have changed?)

You call the number with a touch-tone phone (do they make rotary phones
anymore?) and can select the document(s) you want. An index is available
(about 8 pages long).

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Tech support (714) 727-9360 (automated attendant) takes a long time to
listen and select the options.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

BBS (714) 727-4723 (2400 baud)

If the SixPakPlus is being installed in an XT, you'll need ASTCLOCK.ZIP
available via the BBS.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Here is some more specific information for you:

From the location of the battery, my guess is that you have a Type 1.

The switch settings:

Mem K start address | installed on 6-pak Mem K
1 2 3 | 4 5 6 7 8
|
64 0 0 0 | 0 0 0 n/a p 0
128 0 0 1 | 0 0 1 n/a a 64
192 0 1 0 | 0 1 0 n/a r 128
256 0 1 1 | 0 1 1 n/a i 192
320 1 0 0 | 1 0 0 n/a t 256
384 1 0 1 | 1 0 1 n/a y 320
448 1 1 0 | 1 1 0 n/a 384
512 1 1 1 |

1 = on
0 = off

parity recommended to be on at all times

switch 7 is not applicable

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Jumper settings:

port enable (left to right)

1 2 3 4 5 6

x enable serial port as com1: (3F8)
x enable serial port as com2: (2F8)
x enable parallel port as lpt1:
x enable parallel port as lpt2:
x enable game port (201)
x enable clock/calendar (2C0)

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

IRQ enable jumper block

3S IRQ 3 install if COM1: enabled
43 IRQ 3 install if COM2: enabled

4 must
5 leave
7 these
2 open

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

IRQ 7

install jumper if parallel port is LPT1

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The top three jumpers are for RS-232 settings. Normal is to have the left
two pins shorted on all three of these.

If you need to have CTS, DSR, or DCD be forced true, then you can short
them.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The top connectors are for the game and parallel ports.

Well, that's pretty much all I know. If you need more information, I
would recommend you contact AST.

Good luck,

Andy
