Hi

I am about to get a G400 Matrox Millenium delivered.
Now I'm told the MAX version is better ?

What's the difference in (2D only) anyone ?

Can it both run WindowsNT4 (SP5) yet ?

Actually I've just noticed that the quoted
RAMDAC speed is higher on the MAX - "360" and not "300"

How much impact will this have in practice... anyone ? :-|

well, I own neither G400 nor G440 MAX -- but hey, such trifles have
never prevented me from posting in the past, so what the heck :)
higher RAMDAC speed will translate into higher refresh rates and
'crispier' picture. cf., when I went from the 300 TNT2U to the 350
GeForce DDR (this is RAMDAC i'm talking about, not the prices; though
the numbers are close ;), I noticed the difference in 2D right away -
a cleaner and more pleasant image quality. though the difference is
rather on the minimal side :|.

The max is basicly an g400 card clocked at bit higher, and it has
a higher ramdac speed. The ramdac speed will allow you to get higher
refresh rates basicly. So i dont know if it will matter for you, it
all depends on the monitor and resolution you are going to use.

If the g400 does the 2d resolution you want at the refresh rate you want
then a g400 max wont give you anything more.

The 3d performance of the MAX is a bit better than the normal g400,
because its clocked higher, but its not that much. if i remeber
correctly the g400 max is clocked at 150mhz whereas normal g400
cards are clocked att 120 or 125mhz

Also, the max is only available in dualhead whereas the g400 is
available both as single and dual head
