The other day i went out and bought Ati's radeon 9000, right off the bat I
was impressed with the excellent performance compared to my nvidia card. One
of the main reasons i bought this card was so that i could watch movies on
my Tv that i downloaded to my pc. After the Tv was hooked up i could see my
desktop, and web pages and all that....i was psyked!! After calming down a
bit i went to media player 9 and played a movie. There it was on my monitor,
but not on my tv. I could see media player on the tv, but no
movie....AAAArgh, The Hell??
So i was off to the beatifull impossible world of troubleshooting tips! I
looked all over for for somthing that even came close to the problem i was
having and it just wasn't there...Nothing!! I tried google, well that was a
nightmare.....back to square 1.
After bangin on my keyboard, and screamin at the monitor(freakin the dogs
out at the same time) i started over. heres what i did.....Too easy, but
trust me there are no instructions on how to do this, so heres mine.
First goto display properties in controll panel or by right clicking on
desk top then properties. Then click on the settings tab and then advanced.
Now you see a million scary tabs that most of us would rather not fiddle
with. First make sure tv in the displays tab is turned on, then click on the
overlay tab above displays. it will show some warning or somthing..I forget,
anyways, just click never show again. now down at the bottom click on the
clone mode options, it is in standard overlay display mode. That's the
problem, set it to theater mode then ok, movies will now play on your set
too!!
Now you can love your new video card again and feel smart at the same
time :)
ps. Make sure you also get all the updated drivers from ati.com first, but
we all knew that anyways.
have fun. and let me know how it went
Too darn easy :D
