IBM DS3300 management interface not reachable

today I tried to connect to our DS3300 storage with Storage Manager
client as I did it in the past, but the connection fails! If I try to
ping the management interface adresses (2 controllers installed, static
adresses) I got no response! I can't see any DHCP request, nor got an
response on the default addresses (192.168.128.101, 192.168.128.102).
The iSCSI connections worked well.
Any idea what to do now? Do I have to shutdown all servers and power off
the storage?

Should storage servers not have static IP addresses? Anyways,
you should be able to check on the DHCP server whether
there is an active lease for the MAC addresses of the
interfaces or whether there is an epired lease.
You can then try to ping that.

Better try to find them first. If there is no DHCP lease,
you can also try to scan the network segment with nmap in
order to dind them. If that also gives nothing, the reboot
may be necessary.
Caveat: I don't know the product you are using. It may
have some specific issues.

Nope. First try to connect through other management ports (LAN 2 on both
controllers) via IP 192.168.129.101 and 102.

thanks for your quick response. I have only one management lan adapter
on each controller. I tried both 192.168.129.101 and 192.168.129.102 and
- as I mentioned - 192.168.128.101 and 192.168.128.102. The result is
bad: no ping response.

wondering about the fact, that I can't reach the management ports as I
did it 2 months ago.
I found an interesting article about using the serial port on the
storage systems
(http://www.filibeto.org/unix/aix/lib/hardware/ds4800/faq/QOW%20-%20Setting%20IP%20addresses%20+%20last%20Camp%20this%20year..htm)
but I unfortunately did'nt have the necessary adapter.

If the IP addresses were statically configured, there *won't* be any
DHCP requests by definition!

Get one. They are cheap and sooner or later you will need them.
I recomend getting one with an FTDI chip, they are supported
well under Linux and Windows.
In addition you need either
- a 9 pin null-modem adapter and a 9 pin gender changer
(or 9 pin straight serial cable) or
- a 9 pin null-modem cable.
The null-modem adapter/cable crosses some wires to
connect inputs to outputs and either cable or gender
changer connects the male-type connector on the adapter
to the male-type connector on the device.

thank you very much for your hints! Today i gave up and rebooted the storage
system and both management ports works as expected on the static addresses i had
configured in the past.
