I have a Conner Tapestor 250 that normally reads DC2120 250MB QIC-80
formatted tapes, and I'm looking into buying some of Verbatim's Extra
800MB cartirdges to expand it's storage capacity. Anyway, the 800MB
Extra cartridges apparently come in two widths: standard .250" width
and Travan .315" width. According to Verbatim's Website
(www.verbatimcorp.com/cartxmin.htm), either of the tapes can be used
in QIC-80 drives. Is this in fact true? Would the .315" width
cartridge (called the TR-1Extra) work in a regular QIC-80 drive that
is otherwise not Travan compatible? I have the feeling Verbatim would
state that their Extra cartridges could be used in Walkmans if they
could get away with it. ;-)

Thanks for any replies,
Ben West

Hello,
I have just learned about these new tapes myself. I have the same questions are you. I have the Colorado tape 250 drive. I am running the DualStor software for OS2.

the colorado drives with the correct software will handle the EX tapes.
I know nothing about dualstor for os/2.

The verbatim tapes come with software that will run in dos/wind 3.x/win95.
don't know about os/2.

check with your dualstor vendor/developor. Is this a colorado software
product?

Roger

I'm afraid I missed the first part of this thread (don't you hate it
when people don't quote enough of the previous thread?), but I guess
it has to do with normal QIC-80 drives supporting DC2120 Extra (aka
EX) tapes. Well, the answer is that they do support them. Any drive
which can write QIC-80 tapes can use DC2120 Extra tapes. A friend of
mine has a Jumbo 250 and he uses Extras just fine.

The Extra tapes are _not_ Travan, they are normal QIC-80. Travan tapes
will _not_ work in a non-Travan drive. Make sure when you buy the
tapes that you get DC2120 Extra and _not_ Travan TR-1 (which is also
800M compressed).

I'm afraid I don't know if DualStor supports the tapes tho' (my friend
uses Arcada 5.0 for Windows which comes with the tape).

Cheers
