SCSI HDD HELP

I'm trying to put together an older Pentium system (60/66MHZ).
The Motherboard has an onboard SCSI controller to which I have connected a
SCSI CD-ROM and SCSI HDD. My Problem is on boot everything is recognized,
but I get the message that my SCSI Device is connected but not ready. I
have checked the CMOS and made sure that the Primary Master is set to
SCSI, but when I run auto detect HD it does not recognize the drive. I
have tried this with several SCSI HD's which leads me to believe this is
another problem.

When booting the BIOS reads...

AMIBIOS (C) 1994 American Megatrends Inc.,
568EP Pentium 60/66MHZ PCI/EISA BIOS Ver 1.7

EISA Configuration is invalid, please run ECU

Wait...

Adaptec AIC-7870 Bios v1.11 (C) 1994 Adaptec, Inc. All Rights Reserved
xxxx Press <CTRL><A> for SCSISelect(TM) Utility! xxxx

SCSI ID #0 - DEC RZ25 (C) DEC Device Connected but not ready
SCSI ID #4 - Toshiba CD-ROM

After this process, I do get prompted for a boot disk but I am unable to
format or FDISK the drive I just get the message "No fixed drive present"
any help would be greatly appreciated.

My drives Digital RZ25-E & Quantum RZ28-E

In the BIOS you couldn't set anything for SCSI; waht you are searchig for is
the SCSI Firmware: It tells you to press Crtl-A to get into it; there you
could set options, but as I could see The HD electronic tells :OK, but the
drive doesn't tell any further. Try to set the Send start Unit Command at boot
for the device: maybe it helps. It could be some other thing as well: The
firmware of the disc is for special RAID TZowers. Where did you get the drive?
DEC original (=Quantum) has been labeld DSP-abcde

Cheers
Sam
