ZIP Drive - What is ASPIPPM1.SYS and those .ILM files.

I have the Epson PP Zip drive. The readme files and on-line documentation
talk about using the driver ASPIPPA3.SYS to operate the drive. To enhance
the performance of the drive, the documentation says to remove the parameters
SL360=NO and SMC=NO for this driver. I have no such driver. I have the
driver ASPIPPM1.SYS instead. It takes parameters like FILE=BYTE.ILM SPEED=10.
There are other .ILM files NIBBLE, EPP, SL360, SMC, and PC873EPP. This driver
and the .ILM files are not documented anywhere. I want to get this thing
running faster, but when I try any parameters other than NIBBLE.ILM and
BYTE.ILM, the GUEST program works sometimes, but most of the time it either
hangs or bails with a runtime error - null pointer assignment. I have tried a
stripped config with the same results. My EPP port is LPT2:, 278h, IRQ 5.
It works fine with ASPIPPM1 and BYTE.ILM SPEED=10, but is slower than I can stand.

Anyone solved this problem yet? Or any documentation available?

Thanks,

Uh, what OS are you using?

I have an Iomega PP Zip. Here's what I have in Config.sys for DOS
operation:

DEVICE = C:\IOMEGA\ASPIPPM1.SYS FILE=NIBBLE.ILM SPEED=10
DEVICE = C:\IOMEGA\SCSICFG.EXE /V
DEVICE = C:\IOMEGA\SCSIDRVR.SYS

That's it. Don't load Guest.exe in autoexec.bat (I think it's meant
to be a temporary stand-alone driver).

I'm not sure I'm using the optimal parameters, but it works fine.
You'll never get blazing speed from a PP Zip.

I don't know what documentation comes with the Epson Zip, but if you
download Iomega's Zip installation floppy, you should get a handy file
called Manual.exe with lots of technical information. If you're
running Win95, get Iomega Tools95 v5.0 (it also has a Manual.exe).

Some places to download Iomega stuff:
