Hello !
A week ago I upgraded two PCs with Octec Rhino 15+ TX board +
Pent. 200 MMX + Western Digital HD 3.2GB .
I formatted the HDs as 2GB primary partition + 1.2GB extended one.
I installed Win 95.
When I choose 'Restart computer in MSDOS mode', drive 'D' (the
extended partition) looks corrupted ('DIR' shows an empty
HD, with 4GB free..), and if I do 'exit' and windows restarts
I get and extra HD reported in my computer (C,D,E - while C=D).
In Win. 95 itself there seems to be no problem with the partition.
The HDs are new, 16 heads (so the setting in the bios is 'Normal'),
and since it's the same problem with both computers I believe
it's a configuration problem rather then faulty HDs.
any ideas ?
thanks :)

Any chance the partitions are FAT32 and you're trying to use DOS6
or earlier?
If you are running the Win95 or Win95a (in other words NOT Win95b/OSR2),
then try the Disk Type Specific Driver Update at the link below. Many
have solved similiar problems with this update, including me.
Again, if you are running Win95b (OSR2) or later, then this is NOT your
problem and you shouldn't try this update.

If the volume label on the "false" drive is the same as either of you
other two drives, then it sounds like you have a problem with ghost
drives. I had this same problem, ad someone in this news group
pointed me to the microsoft web page to to get the fix.
Go to the microsoft home page and do a search for a file named
"dsktsupdt.exe" this file updates a critical windows disk.dll that
helps Win95 behave the way it is supposed to with regard disk drives.
Your search will turn up some details (that I can't remember) about
what might be going on with your ghost drive when you reboot to DOS.
The fix worked perfectly for me. Hope this helps...
