Hi there,
i have WD AC2420, which did this once.
After this i had problems in the file structure.
Made a full backup, ran the WD-util WDAT_IDE.EXE
which relocated some sectors, restored my files,
and now all is well.
This was more than a year ago, never had any
problems again. Get this util from the WD WWW-site.

I get the same noise, too, but I've never had any problems
with the drive. Now, I'm starting to get very worried that it's going
to fail on me sometime within the next 3 months. It's time for me to
save up my summer job money and get a SCSI card and an MO drive...

My 1.2 WDC does pretty much the same thing. Hopefully, it's normal.

I've got three WD drives AC2700, 2850, & 31200 all of which do this on
power-down. I'm fairly sure it's the auto head-park mechanism which
could have been dampered better I suppose, but all of these drives have
been working for at least 6 months with no bad sectors.
