Hi,

I have a Gateway laptop Solo 9300, with a FireWire port (4-pin, non
powered).

I would like to buy and connect a new CD-RW by Sony which comes with a
i-Link cable (6-pin).

It is specified it is possible to get an adapter in order to connect the
6-pin cable to the 4-pin connector. But Sony also told me all IEEE 1394 port
doesn't work with the last specifications their products follow.
Gateway (as usual) was unable to give me more information.

Can you help me? Do you know if this configuration should work?

Thanks.

Domi

If it was my money, I'd just go scsi and forget it; do you really want
to beta test this interface?

Hello,

IEEE-1394, Firewire and i.Link all refer to the same technology. They
are just different names for it. There does exist a cable which has a
4-pin connnector on one end and a 6-pin connector on the other. This
is what you need, you can find it online. And i've even seen it a some
Circuit City stores lately (although they charge a ridiculous amount
for them).

Thanks,
kxh
