I need a program that will split a hugh zip file into smaller chunks
so that each chunk can fit onto a 1.44M floppy and later merged
back together.

I have tried ZIPOFF & ZIPTOOL from ftp.wustl.edu's zip directory but
they have a limitation: the splitted zip file size cannot be smaller
than the largest file in the zip file. I have a zip file of 3 Meg
and it contains only 1 file.

Are there any other handy utilities out there that could do what I
want besides backup/restore?

Please ost comments or direct responses to sl...@esri.com

Thanks In Advance.

Good news, it just so happens that the GUI newsletter is being released
tomorrow, June 3, and bundled with the newsletter is a set of free
utilities which will allow any type of file, including zip files, to be
automatically broken into smaller files of virtually any size, and then
recombined later. It has defaults for common floppy sizes, (360, 720,
1.2, 1.44, and 2.88, or the files may be broken into any size in excess
of 100K. I wrote the program myself after having the frustration of easy
file splitting on PC's. This program has been tested by a group of GUI
members for the last three months or so, and has been very successful.
The newsletter should be available for downloading sometime Friday
afternoon at ftp.sei.cmu.edu /pub/gateway2000/GUI.

If you want to put it on multiple floppies, use the -& switch when
you zip it. I have PKZIP version 2.04c and it supports this feature.
If you want to split an already zipped file, I'm lost. (however, you could
unzip it on your hard drive and then zip it again to floppy using -&)
