What is a good stable 440BX Slot 1 motherboard that will work well with a
Voodoo3 3000? My current motherboard (Gigabyte GA-6BXC 1.1 rev.A) doesn't
work with the Voodoo3 3000 card due to problems supplying the AGP slot with
enough power.

This machine will run Windows 98 and will NOT be overclocked. It has a
450MHz Pentium II CPU.

I don't want to spend much over $100, if possible.

I'm thinking of the SOYO SY-6BA+ III or SY-6BA+ IV (though I don't need
UltraATA/66).

Thanks,

Daryl Forrest

The Asus P3B-F is arguably the best BX motherboard in existence. I've found
it to be stable and reliable... and great fun if you're an overclocker. It's
worked with any video card I've thrown at it... and I can give you a whole
laundry list of cards that I've tried if you're interested.

Huh ? Are you certain that lack of power is the source of your
problems? What are the symptoms ? Did you check the supply voltage on
your card with an accurate DVM when running a performance-intensive
3D application ?

This is apparently a known problem with Rev.A of the Gigabyte GA-6BXC 1.1
motherboard. Gigabyte tech support actually told me that this was the
problem. Newer revisions actually have a "Voodoo" jumper that increases the
AGP slot's power.

I just installed a V3 2000 on an Asus P3B-F and am VERY happy with it. It has
cleared up problems that I had with 2 previous cards and every program I have
runs great.

won't supply enough power?

sounds like a power supply problem,, not a mobo problem

Nope. It's a motherboard problem. I verified it with Gigabyte. This
revision has a problem supplying power to the AGP port, but it's only a
problem with cards that use the maximum power in the spec.
