HDSS (Hard Drive Super Source) advertises in Computer Shopper
where I saw their ad for a Hitachi 15 inch monitor. I placed the order
last month. When it did not arrive, I spent 2 days on the phone
before they told me they could not ship the monitor and did not know
when or if they would carry it again. I cancelled the order with the
salesman and purchased the monitor elsewhere (Great monitor, by
the way.) But HDSS had charged my credit card even though they
never shipped anything. After several days of trying to reach them,
Elena admitted the card should not have been charged and said she
would instruct a credit. After many weeks and no credit and no one
answering the phones for days at a time...after being put on hold, or
misdirected, or told someone would call me (never happens) when I
can get through...after finding from telephone information that there is
no phone listing at the address or the city they claim in computer
shopper,...after finding their advertised tech support number is
disconnected...after all this I have really grown disgusted with this
dishonest, sham of a company. Stay away, unless you also want to
lose money.

I'm very unimpressed with Computer Shopper's (lack of) advertising
integrity checking.. I bought my current motherboard from Vortex Computer
Laboratories and they went promptly out of business about a month later
(though I must admit I did receive the MB: I ordered COD). Luckily,
between ASUS support and the Internet resources available (www, usenet),
I've managed to have a favorable experience with the motherboard so far.

It's pissed me off enough to make me consider writing a web-based
advertising index/searchable database.. Another thing which bugs me is
having to page through reams of ads: I'd prefer a quick search. Also, the
size (and price) of an ad in no way guarantees a company's integrity and
CS cannot or will not run "consumer opinion" issues in the depth needed.

Would anyone be interested in a CGI-searchable database of current
hardware/software prices? Paid for by advertising and "lines" in the
database. Think of all the trees we could save! ;)

At this point you contact the credit card company and tell them you
will not pay this charge. They'll take it up with the vendor; you
don't have to pay the disputed charge and it won't affect your credit.

Well, I won't say you didn't have a problem, but I've bought from HDSS
about a dozen times in the last 2 years and not had a problem.
