I was curious, I have an IBM Aptiva machine it came standard with a AMD
K6/2-500 processor well I exchanged it with a K6/2-550 processor I recieved
for a birthday gift "Blah a whole 50mhz" but still it's a tad faster but the
machine only recoginzes it as a 500 still, what can I do to fix this problem
on this computer
thanks

Two things can be causing your problem. One is that the motherboard used
by IBM in your system doesn't support CPU's >500 MHz. I'm not too sure
about what products are used in the aptiva line, so I cannot be sure
whether this is the case or not. The second possibility is that the bios
on the motherboard may need to be updated to be able to support CPU's >500
MHz. In either case you will probably have to contact IBM about whether
or the Motherboards they used in that model support >500 MHz CPU's and if
so where you could find a bios update for the motherboard.

Hope this helps,

I have a 2153 E2N which I upgraded from a 266 to a 550. My BIOS also only
reflects a 500Mhz. I downloaded Sandra (free) and ran it against my CPU
and it correctly calls it a 549Mhz. Also Wintune says it is a 550Mhz. I
would not worry about what the BIOS thinks it is if it is running as a 550.

you may have to set the multiplier to 5.5 instead of 500. (unless a test
prg. tells you it's @ 550)
