I am looking to buy my first CD-ROM. I have a 486 dx?80 with 32
MEG of RAM. Price is kinda an issue, but not really. My main concerns
are speed. reliability, and ability to play all games no matter how
extensive and not wait for a thing(if that is realistic with my set up.)
I am going to get a P166 in the future, but again, that is in the
future(hopefully within the year).
SPEED: 8x or 6.5x or 6x? Would I really know the diff. and
when? I am not into long file loads/installs, large dictionaries and
encyclopedia type stuff, and I am planing on playing the best of the best
games...Can't handle games slowing down and stuff like on my buddies
system, when the games are extensive.
Makers: I have been looking into things quite extensively and I
am wondering if someone can just confirm what I have found. It seem that
the best CD-ROM for the price is the TEAC 8x CD58A and the TEAC 6x CD56A.
They had the best access times of them all(135 and 145). Is this the
best choice to go with? Why would I pick anything else? What else is
there? Talon is the only other thing that even comes close to those specs
and they are 8x at 180ms....So what do ya think?
So, that is the problem. My first choice was Plextor's 8Plex,
but because that is SCSI I am stuck until I get the new system, which
will be all SCSI. I need recomendations on a fast fix..
Thank You,
Jared
