So a beta copy of DOOM got out.
Why, oh why can't people respect our wishes and not leak copies not ready for
distribution?
I can't ait to get my hands opn the copy and confront the joker who let it get
out.

I hope that the rest of the netters out there *do* respect ID's wishes and just
wait (albeit patiently) for the "real" beta to come out. Also, I trust those
currently looking for one will wait until it's announced. You can bet Jay will
be the first one to post something in this group when it is ready.

Jay,
I think the person in question is *asking* for a Beta copy from someone
that has it. He is not saying that he has a Beta to share. The fact that
there is a Beta (or Alpha) in existance should be obvious to anyone who
thinks about it. The fact that there have been early looks and articles
about it in "Game Bytes" would , since we are reading a lot about Doom in
there.
However, if noone had realized a Beta copy of the game existed, then you
have let the cat out of the bag yourself, by your posting! ;-)
Now the fact that ANYONE who would ask for a PIRATED copy of Beta test
software (for which an NDA has been signed by the tester) is pathetic.
That they would do so in a public forum such as this is just PLAIN STUPID.
UNLESS, however, they were under the impression that it was a PUBLIC Beta
release, which would not be totally unheard of. ;-)

Well, I think the poster was just trying to find a copy. Doesn't mean one
exist.

*my* take is that you've seriously underestimated Jay's sense of humor.
I'll bet he knows where _all_ the betas are. I'd guess that everyone
who has a beta copy also has an incentive to see that _none_ get out early.
Wouldn't want to hurt sales, and a beta would do that, for Doom, I'm sure.
Unless it was a lucky, perfect beta, and if there was any chance of that,
Jay would be hinting about an even *earlier* release already.
Anybody up for starting a pool on just exactly *when* it'll be released?
Traffic about that might stop the continual "Is DOOM out yet?" posts.
I can't suggest anything for prizes, but... put me down for:
Friday the 13th!!

That is the way I read the post, too. ID has lots of support here both
for game quality and net activity by Jay Wilbur. I say just point
out the stupidity of the request and move on. Imagine getting
a personal email flame from ID. That would be more impressive than
a reply from @whitehouse.gov.

Uh, Imed,....I'm afraid you have your "good doer" confused with your
"assholer".... 'fraid I'll have to pass on your request.
