As always, release dates are estimates. Treat them that way. Until a game
gets to within a week of shipping, it's purely an estimate. There isn't a
game produced that isn't slipped at least once in the schedule.

What? Is EA trying to make another Bard's Tale game without Interplay,
or is this some other type game.

Anyone know what they're going to do for this one? Maybe an angry baron
throws you into dungeon despise or something. Doesn't seem like they could
really have another dungeon stomping adventure without using the same type
story. Dunno, maybe it's outdoors (that would TRULY be a quasi-VR game to
behold.) Maybe they could send you into Origin Headquarters to rough up
it's employees so they don't leave so many bugs in quality games. Heh..

Another ?company? type question here. Who will be making this one, SSI (
since it is partly the left hand of TSR) or Westwood (Who have designed
the system for the other two, but left SSI for Virgin)? Probably a new
system, maybe more UUW style rather than the old turn corner, see halls
type.
> "Mech Warrior" Sequel Dynamix 4Q93
"Mech Warrior" sequel? Why would Dynamix be doing it. Accolade made the
previous one, right. Don't get me wrong though, I would MUCH rather see
Dynamix make it than Accolade.

Anyone have ANY information on these games? Some of the titles look
interesting, but I have never even heard anything about them. They'll
probably be quality, and probably be delayed though. Oh well, probably the
first games in awhile that Origin (EAD?:) ) has made that don't contain
_Ultima_ and _Commander_.
> Ultima X: Virtual Reality Origin Systems 1996
Home VR by 1996? Good luck, I'd love to see it. It'd be a trip, but
seeing the way VR companies are struggling now, don't hold your breath.

I'd rather have something that uses Microprose's F-15 III graphics engine
coupled with Spectrum Holobyte's ambient world modelling. Wouldn't it
be great if you are but one Mech among many other independent-minded
Mechs in a dynamic world with rolling terrain? Dynamix doesn't look like
the sort of company that can pull anything complex off.
Phat.
Then what is the (MechWarrior,BattleTech) sequel Activision (sorry, I
meant Activision, Accolade, activision, sorry) is putting together? I
think I saw that listed earlier in the Release date list. Would that one
be another Crescent Hawk game (as if the last two weren't bad enough)? But
then it would be made by Infocom (But is Activision still dist. Infocom?)
Have I answered my own question.?

The news we have of it will be that it's similar to UW 1, but the
monsters will be much bigger and more carefully animated and drawn and
you'll have new skills. Haven't heard about the setting yet though.
I would assume it's still underground though. Have to check with Mr.

Because Dynamix wrote Mech Warrior for Activision to sell. Accolade
wasn't involved at all.

I disagree strongly. I believe Dynamix has all kinds of technical
talent to pull this off very nicely. I've talked to their programmers
and Damon Slye and they have every intention of moving 3-space into
realms that will "blow your mind". Maybe they were referring to this
sequel.
I have both Red Baron and Aces of the Pacific, and my disparaging opinion
of Dynamix still stands. They don't have graphics anywhere as nice as
MPS's F-15III, and their world models and campaign engines have nowhere
near the texture and depth of SH's. Based on Dynamix's _prior art_,
I don't expect their Mechwarrior sequel to "blow my mind". With Aces,
I have learned to expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised than to
work myself up over something and then be disappointed.
Phat.
That's not what EA says!! Bard's Dungeon is "supposed" to take place
underground. Where did you hear "Bard's Tale IV"??

Your statement above is contrary to what Richard Garriott said on-line
in a conference with the RPG gamers group on Compuserve not too many
weeks ago. He said specifically that he was trying to make the next
trilogy a virtual reality type of experience. He hinted to this
effect in our Game Bytes interview with him as well.
Plus MPS Labs (Microprose) is supporting more sound technology. Dynamix
still just uses AdLib or Roland...the SB Option sounds like the AdLib
option. They have no DAC sounds..all ancient 2-op FM. Whereas, MPS labs
supports many cards to their potential...Adlib, SB, SB Pro, PAS, PAS+,
PAS-16, Roland, etc. The new Rex Nebular supports stereo 4-op FM music
on the SB Pro Basic and ProAudioSpectrum Plus and 16 cards. If you would
like to see the Rex Nebular demo, FTP to wuarchive and get rexneb.zip in

Did I mix up two separate games again? Could be. I saw a demo for Bard's
Tale IV at a convention last month and there was no mention made of a
Bard's Dungeon. Or it could be a title change for all I know.
All I can say is that when I spoke to Mr. Garriott at the convention I
mentioned above he stated that the same game design used to create
Ultima Underworld would be used in Ultima X. He may have decided on a
grander design since then or I misinterpreted his remarks. I don't think
it really matters at this point since the game is slated for release in
1996 at the earliest. (Although I can't believe the technology will go
down in price enough to make it marketable by then, but who knows).
Reading that last sentence again, I think I may have given the impression
that I was "pleasantly surprised" with Aces of the Pacific. I was not.

True. Dynamix games sound rather flat when played with a SB.
Phat.
Well, I have heard that of a Bard's Tale IV (not the Construction kit)
being kicked around for awhile, but have never been sure of who would be
making it. Since Interplay made the original, and made the recent
construction kit, wouldn't it seem to be that Interplay would put it out,
not EA. But then I have heard that it IS EA that is making the sequel. I
don't care much, not being a fan of Bard's Tale, but it intrigued me.

Sorry, that was just a bad case of typing. I meant Activision, really,
trust me.. (Sorry.) Asking a question I asked before and never got a
reply, isn't Activision also making a Mechwarrior game? Or is it another (
ugh..) Crescent Hawk game.

I seem to have heard that this game will 'try to be as close to virtual
reality' as a home system can get. It's probably a few years off, anyways
(at least 4, with delays tacked on, let's say 6). Anyway, if you compare a
game from 4-6 years ago (say Bard's Tale I) to Ultima Underworld and you
will see a vast difference. What's to say what it will be like in 6 years.
I just made the comment sarcasticly. I doubt the game will be goggles/
gloves/helemet/etc. VR, but I think it's safe to assume that it will boggle
our minds when it arrives.
