Can anybody help me with Solar Winds? I have fulfilled all the missions
up to the chasing of the guy to the vortex known as the key. Then, if I
let him go then I'm stranded in the middle of whoop whoop. The same
happens if I destroy his ship. If I decide to go with him, my ship
blows up. What do you do and what the hell is the tricillium for?
Thanks in advance.

I also was stumped for about 2 minutes then I realized the gov't wants you dead
so it planted the tricilium in your ship. The tricilium is what makes you blow
up so just eject it. by transpoting it out, then go through the hole. The
mixture causes a rupture in the hole thus blowing your ship up, seemed pretty
obvious once I understood what was happening. Now that I have answered your
question could you answer mine..I have two. First of all are you
supposed to use hyperdrive? I use it to go far distances and I am left with no
fuel, no shields but with just minimum life support. How the hell do you
get more fuel? does it replenish itself or is it just always supposed
to be around 200 - 300 gws..Second of all, has anyone else experienced
problems with the game? Just before I reach the "hole" and after I kill
everyone at that outpost, I start seeing lines all over my screen and then
after I go through the hole the game freezes and quits...and every time I load
up that game where I saved it, it dumps right at the same spot. What's up?
I am a 386-33, sound blaster, dr-dos, 4.5 or so megs of memeory, and I am
running superstor , a disk compression program. Has anyone else seen the lines
all over thier screen? oh and I have a svga card with svga monitor with a meg of
video ram. Thanks for any help.

Drop everything in your cargo, it's actually something the
goverment slipped onto your ship you need to drop, but I forget
what. Then voila the ship won't blow when you join him. BTW that's
the end of the game until you pay for the second greatly expanded
part. I'm saving pennies as I type :-)

I guess you don't HAVE to use hyperdrive if you don't mind travelling for
several hours (real time) to those far off stars. You should be getting
more fuel sources each time you complete a specific task. Just check your
inventory and use such items. You then have more "points" to distribute
between the various things.

I've had some very quirky bugs occur. Sound similar to what you describe.
I thought they were actually sort of fun to watch, particularly when
things went crazy while I was in a battle. My solution was to simply
reboot and everything worked fine again until the next random bug cropped
up. This happened maybe 3 or 4 times before I solved the game.

All in all a decent game though I don't think the trisomething at the
vortex was a very good ending. Seems like blind luck to figure that out.

The best bug I found with it was a traveling bug. Being at the place where
you are supposed to rescue that guy (the reason for getting the hyperdrive)
and turning the ship a certain way, i got a 'free' ride back to known space,
ie a pseudo hyperdrive experience only without using fuel, of course most of
the bugs i found in general seemed like memory conflicts that would appear
after playing the game for a long while (hour +) and would be solved/gotten
rid of by saving, quittig out and coming back in.

It is a cool game, and I had thought about getting the second one, but when
I finished the 1st episode in under 3 hours, I got discouraged and wondered
if it would be worth the money, depending on how much bigger the second really
is. Also since I was not sure what exactly was causing the video redraw
problems, etc...I dont want to throw away too much money.

Has anyone registered? if so, was the second part as good a quality as the firs
t only a LOT larger? Thanks.
Joe

Thanks! I wondered what that was for and why I couldn't "use" it! ;)

You don't have to use Hyperdrive if you don't really want to (but then
you must wait a LONG time for your ship to actually reach those far off
places... ;) )

BTW, I seem to gain GWS when I kill off an enemy ship.

Thanks again!

Hey there,

Finished episodes #1! Not a bad game, actually I kinda liked it!

Anyone registered and played Episode #2? Any good?

This game kinda reminds me of Origin's AutoDuel back on the Apple II+!

Fun action-based game but had a pretty good story to make it interesting
to play!

I registered about a month ago, but they haven't bothered to send me the second
game yet. From what I hear though, it is quite a bit larger. I don't know if
this means "more running around" or "more game." I certainly hope it's the
latter. I've heard from Solar Winds' author that game 2 includes at least a
few different types of things - like a high speed obstacle course, for
example. I'm looking forward to it. (the charge went through more than 3
weeks ago - they can send it any time :)

I believe it's still available from wuarchive.wustl.edu under

Good luck!

I've seen the thread on this game. Is it shareware? And if yes,
which ftp site carries it (wuarchive, lowell, ...)?

Thanks in advance.

The first device you collected does that for you. After solving it the first
time (And almost running out of energy) I decided to see what would happen
when you killed everything on the screen. You can build up alot of energy
that way.

I think that reduction of fuel is diliberate to MAKE you do things the right
way. If you had to much energy, what could the government do to stop you?

Yeah, before you start killing other ships, get the first device
(forgot what it is called but it creates energy when you destroy
other ships). Also, the best way to use the hyperdrive is to
completely charge up your engines and crank up the hyperdrive
speed to the max (220 I think or around there). When you are in
hyperspace, keep the engine energy up ('y' ?) and keep the
hyperdrive speed up ('+' I think). You travel fastest this way.
Even if you travel at a lower hyperspeed, your energy burns up at
the same rate, but you cover less distance so it will take more
energy to get where you want to go. After doing this, I found
that I could fly to the other galaxy and back with plenty of
energy left.
