As you've maybe read here, I've been toying with my iPad the last few
weeks. Still looking for true wargames (preferably with AI) and not
finding them.
But today I ran into a more or less universal boardgame app:
Everygame: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/everygame/id370362079?mt=8
Here's the dev's blog: http://ipadeverygame.blogspot.com/
And here's a fansite: http://everygameapp.com where you can even find
a beta of a wargame! http://everygameapp.com/downloads/airborne-in-my-ipad/

The app works with XML files to build your own game in it.
So maybe, maybe, there will be a way to play wargames on the iPad.

Nice find! The game currently available doesn't seem like my cup of
tea, but here's to hoping some people embrace this.

Very nice find.

You've got to give it some time - the iPad is now out for what - a
year ? It and other tablets like it are obviously going to be a big
gaming platform. Read an article yesterday that Apple has ordered 65
million - that's 65 and 6 zeroes - 9.7 inch screens from various
manufacturers. Nobody is building large inventory stocks these days so
Apple must think they're going to sell that many iPad 2 devices when
it becomes available early next year.

Arkham Horror is on there, but Amoebe Wars looks to be more like a
tech demo than the old AH game. Could be more something like the
boardgame Primordial Soup which is a pretty good game.

[Pays attention]

Arkham Horror just *screams* for a portable/VASSAL version - the space
needed to play it being the limiting factor for even solo play. Is this
application runnable under Windows 7? (emulators et al)

Haven't tried the game, but after reading most of Lovecraft for the
first time this past year, it looks interesting. Just not sure it
will be worth the learning curve.

It could also be seen as Apple locking out competitors in the 10"
touchscreen tablet market. Without 10" screens, their competitors have been
forced to yield that market and that might be why there are so many 7"
alternatives.

Now THIS is a Christmas present! Last time I checked FFG had a ban on
VASSAL/Cyberboard ports.

It is. My gaming group loves it, and it is excellent for solo-playing too.
Just remember:

- The best combination is the main game with one big expansion and a small
one (for example Arkham Horror + Dunwich + Black Pharaon) and four
investigators.

- The first time you play you *will* make a lot of mistakes and fight
against the learning curve. Just remember: it is worth it.

- Most problems/mistakes can be avoided by simply following the correct
sequence of play: download it and print it.

Here is my AAR of a solo game: one of my early attempts as you will see :^D

Nice AAR. I will put the game on my list... but the list is really
long :)

I did look at the module - there are some nicely designed features. I
notice there are a number of FFG modules so maybe they've lifted their
ban.
