Jackal is a commercial payed utility that presumably
removes the need for disk inserted when playing from
PC Games.
Why should we pay extra to play games without the disk
inserted when playing?
This should be something included in the game itself.
I don't agree with using these kind of utilities cause
games are already expensive for now having to pay for
extra utilities.
I still defend the best is for Retail PC Games having
no need for disk inserted when playing given by the
developers either out-of-the-box or with a official
patch.
Does anyone use Game Jackal? Does it actually work?
I knew about Game Jackal by checking out Gamecopyworld
and seeing massive advertisement for it, which is not
a very good sign...
Checking their forum at http://www.gamejackal.com/forum/
you see some proclaiming STARFORCE games do work with the
Jackal but then you see actual users telling otherwise
I wonder why do we see false claims of STARFORCE games
working with Jackal when it will only give Jackal a bad
name... wait a minute probably its STARFORCE themselves
doing it... cleaver guys those STARFORCE things...
I still remember when those things posted direct links in
their forum for PC Games without copy-protection to
promote piracy and FUCKUP developers and publishers that
didn't use copy-protection.
When it comes to STARFORCE the only thing to do is
BOYCOTT.
As for Jackal I don't see it as a contribution to make
PC Games better.
Making PC Games better is developers and publishers not
using copy-protection and we PC Gamers all fighting
together and against what makes copy-protection exist in
the first place, PIRACY, casual copying and the Used 2nd
hand market.
Long live PC Games with no copy-protection!
Hey thanks pcg, that's a really interesting post (hyperbole aside).
Personally I've never found a game which lacks a noCD crack and yet
works with GameJackal. The only games in my collection which don't have
functional noCD cracks (or mini-images) are Darkstar One (some advanced
version of Tages which nobody cracked) and ... dammit, I forget the
other one. There are only two, anyway - and neither works with
GameJackal.
So it seems to me that GJ is money for old rope (I haven't even
bothered to download a cracked version, though the irony is tempting).
Now, if they could get StarForce games working so that I didn't need to
disconnect all my CD/DVD drives when I use the noCD cracks, that would
mean I could close up my case again, and that would be great!

"Game Jackal works by making profiles of your favorite games. A profile is
not an image of the game's cd, but a small collection of files (on average a
game's profile is only 9MB in size**). The profile creation process is
straightforward..."
And a FAQ question :
"I have lost my game's original CD - can Game Jackal allow me to create a
profile and play that game without the original CD?
No, Game Jackal requires the original game's CD-ROM to create the profile,
even copied CD's will not work."
So P.C.Gamer should approve.
You can't even copy there Profile things from one Computer to another as
they are tied to a
particularly machine in some way.
There is also somewhere on that site a quoted recommendation
from some big Com. Game Industry name (Ubisoft I think) that 'they' like it
cause
its makes things easier for owners but does not make Pirating any easier.
No sign of a game using same sort of thing built in tho.
It must be a pretty aggressive resident inside-Windows routine to take that
much control.
Almost as bad as STEAM perhaps. Or worse than StarForce.

I didn't create this thread Trimble to talk about PIRACY.
I presume anyone that will use techniques to be able to play
PC Games with no need for disk inserted when playing like
when using Game Jackal, will respect the games creator and
NOT PIRATE the game.
As for your comments about Game Jackal, as always very
interesting point of view... I really enjoy your opinion.
First the so called profiles cannot be backed-up or even
transferred from one machine to another which is a serious
limitation I don't like at all and probably its enough for
me to not want it.
Second the so called profiles are heavily protected.
Conclusion? It takes more than it gives. So not a solution
for me.
Like usual your contribution is very valuable
Where are snobs Wally and Benjy to give also their opinion?
Nowhere in site and even if they tried I don't believe they
would add anything.
But this is the feature that stops GameJackal being used for Pirate
or ANY copies.
If there Profile things could be copied around then they could be put up
along
with a Pirate version just like people put up Mini- ISO's & Damon's Tool.
Thing I don't care for Re: Game.Jack is the way it must override your CD /
DVD
drives & be deep inside Windows system Operation.

I would like being able to freely copy profiles and I would
not pirate but again I would not want any copy-protection
in any PC Game in the first place and that would make this
Game Jackel useless.
Unfortunately Trimble not everyone is like us, respecting
developers when no copy-protection is used.
Lets hope more like us will appear in PC Games...
Like that Lennon song... "I hope you day you can join us"
I am now running all my CD required game programs using
Jackal plus my Thomas Brothers map program. Jackal is
priced very low and works and has worked for me every time.

Do you own any STARFORCE games?
Can you list some of the most recent titles?
I have other game that I haven't yet tried but
will probably work as well.
I just bought Game Jackal on the recommendation here, and it's great!
Very inexpensive, and my son can finally play both Star Wars: Empire at
War games without the CD's! Worth every penny just for that.

I have some questions... either you or Senica can answer
. How does installation work?
. What is Game Jackal own copy-protection?
. Does it have product activation? server authentication?
. Does it require internet to install and use?
. Or is it simply you installing and inserting a CD Key and that
can be done without internet connection?
. Is the program tied to your hardware?
. Does it have DRM type protection so you can only use it in a
specific hardware?
. Can you easily install on one machine and then decide to try on
another? Transferring the program (not the profiles) from one PC
to another is possible and easy?
. Does it have spyware or addware or any harmful stuff?
. Does it mess your system like Trimble described?
The standard version only costs US 9.95 which is affordable but
probably this kind of product needs future updates for future
games with future copy protections so probably the Pro is better
cause it has "Lifetime updates" and the price is 17.95.
For me even 17.95 is affordable if it can remove the need for
disk inserted from all the games I own, but that is not the
case cause Game Jackal doesn't work with Starforces and I've
also read in the forum it also doesn't work with "Tages" but
more important is the way the program installs and runs, if it
has DRM or is tied to the hardware or has product activation,
them I'm not interested.
> Rise of Nations
> Rise of Legends
> Rome Total War
> Dawn of War
> Company of Heroes
> Chessmaster 10
> Total Annihilation
> Thomas Brothers Maps
> Civilization 2
The others I don't own so I can't confirm but CoH you don't
need to use Game Jackal cause Company of Heroes already comes
with no need for disk inserted when playing out-of-the-box
You mean that I have to install the game Jackle disk everytime I want to
play a game, instead of inserting the original game disk? If that's true,
then it's still the same PIA.
No, that's bollox! Once game Jackal is installed you don't have to insert
the CD every time you want to play a game - otherwise I'd be screwed as I
downloaded my copy of GJ I didn't order it on CD.
The problems I've had with GJ are more to do with loosing game profiles or
certain games not running as they detect the program as an emulator/copy
protection bypass application.
BillL
No, Senica stated that very poorly. You have to insert the origial game
CD once so Game Jackal can watch it load and build the profile. From
then on, you run the Game Jackal profile instead of the original game
icon and the game loads without any CD in the drive.
Game Jackal itself requires no CD (it was a download purchase for me).
