If some of you are interested in some light reading when wargaming
gets dull, David Colley has written a decent "what if" book about the
operations of the US 6th Army after the invasion of southern France.
Basically he writes about the fact that Devers was not one of Ike's
favorites and although the 6th Army was in a position to cross the
Rhine in November of 44, the whole idea was nixed when Ike learned
about it as SHAEF was more concerned about following their original
plans. Overall I thought it brought up some interesting points and if
I was more ambitious it might be worth cobbling up a couple of
scenarios and see if they had any merit.

If I can spell it correctly the title is "Decision at Strausbourg:
Ike's Strategic Mistake" and it's less than 300 pages so it's a fast
read.

The 6th AG gets little press and no TV time.
Al Patch ,7th Army, was one of our best army commanders
