Why should this be such a surprise to you? Everyone knows that in Dune II
there was a unit limit (about 25, I believe). Blizzard probably just took
Westwood's source code, multiplied the limit by two and... TaDa! Job done!

Using the map editor, apparently the limit is everything you own (buildings,
troops, skeletons, etc).
And it is a pretty big number. If you hit this number, then you're probably
sitting around trying to mass up the "perfect" strike force instead of
sending out troops to attack.

We did run into a unit limit in a 2 player game and it was a lot
higher than 50. In fact, we each had enough farms to support 80 plus
units. I read somewhere that there is a 256 unit limit, but I do not
know if that includes buildings, skeletons, etc.
Thankfully, I do not have to feed those skeletons after using the
Raise Dead spell.

You can hit this number without too much trouble if there are a lot
of players in the game. A friend and I routinely hit the max when
playing modem games with 5 computer opponents.

Actually we were playing us 2 players against 6 computer opponents..
and we *NEED* a big army to take over ANY of them cuz we gave them
unlimited resources :)... Even both our armies put together, attacking
the computer in full strength at "Cannot create any more units" kept
getting repelled, and all our units died... Thats at around 100
units... WE need at LEAST 200 or so.. I Dunno its just way too
annoying #$%^& <G>
Ya, sure, how about 65 Trillion units! Heck! you don't even have the RAM
or HD space for it!
>Look at Command & Conquer..
>If they can give us unlimited units, why can't warcraft II do it to?
Bullshit. Just because you haven't hit the limit doesn't mean there isn't
any.
>-:) I can understand a limit on Dune2 (C&C's predecessor), and
>Warcraft I, But a unit limit on Warcraft II is just TOO annoying.
Well, are you going to fight a war or are you going to play Sim City?
I've been playing 8-player games and have never once hit the limit (nor have
any of the players). Are you folks really just decorating your bases with
troops or what?

Actually, I like the limit. Personally, I find the "Cold War" syndrome
you get with unlimited units is sort of boring. Of course, after hours
and hours of playing WC2, I've never encountered the limit. Guess I'm
just too violent.

Yes yes, but now with more sophisticated computing equipment, we

175???? WHOA BABY!!!!! What kinda city did you have? Any turrets or
anything? My MAX ever units was 50, but i did have a heck load of
turrets, walls and stuff... 175? You sure about that? I dont think
thats possible! <G> When my farms are at 50 or so thats when i hit
the limit.
(After killing all my peasents !@#$%^)
Think of it this way. The surrounding landscpae doesn't have anybdy to
train yet. Maybe if your troops wiat 15-20 years after some more babies have
been born.

Again, it comes back to the question, are you playing WarCraft or Sim City?
I've played 2 Vs 6 computer players, and we did not hit any limit. To that
extent, my unit count (soldiers & peons, inc. dead ones, as in the summary
screen) was only 86, and my friend's being about 100+ (less than 110).
I was playing Orcs, which does not have healing, either.

Yep we survived :)... Only cuz we drained out their gold and they ran
outta money... :) The yellow guys were TOUGH.. our two players put
together, couldn't overcome him with a "full on army" .... Thats why
we hate the unit limit.. i've never gotten more than 60 units on hand
at a time... against 6 cpu's it really is tough to keep defense AND
offense going... with only 60 units??? :)
Unit Limit is not a problem, 'cos you can kill your own peasants after
they've harvested and mined everything. Not to mention that when I
someone approaching me I send a bunch of peasants there. It holds them
for a while , in this time I can produce a "few" soldiers...
