Hi.

I'm in the middle of the '39 scenerio against an Easy opponent.

I got minor victories in Poland and France and Major victories
in Warsaw, Norway and the Low Countries.

First some comments:

1. In Norway, they only way I've been able to save my Naval fleet
from total anihilation is to use my aircraft as recon planes to
spot the enemy fleet. This way, my capital ships will have a target
to shoot at without getting to close to their destroyers. Also, it
allows my U-boats to attack the capital ships without being surrounded
by destoyers.

2. Tactical bombers are effective in reducing the strength points on
capital ships.

3. I really like Bridge Engineers. I have 5 infantry: 2 regular 39 HW,
1 paratrooper, and two bridge engineers. Those bridge engineers can
do almost anything!

4. Fighters are effective against infantry that are out in the open. They
seem to always inflict damage against the infantry. It doesn't seem
as effective against infantry in the city or the forest.

5. Anti-Aircraft guns are pretty useless once your air-force wiped out all
of their planes.

However, I do not have any Recon or Anti-Tank units in my core army. Will
this pose a problem? To me, Recon units aren't that great. If I wanted to
do recon, I'll just get air-superiority first and have my aircraft fly sweeps
over the areas I want to check out.

But, I wonder about ATGs though. They seem to have pretty decent move and
attack numbers. Can they be used to run over infantry? The rule book
recommends them for defense. (I noticed a lot of them in France) Are there
any suggestions about their use?

Regards,
Eric

For the record, the level bomber JU-88 is the most effective anti-ship
airplane, with its naval attack factor of 14. Use them instead of JU-87s
to attack ships.

Towed anti-tank units are not very "convenient" to use. You're better off
with Tank Destroyers (self-propelled anti-tank vehicles).

Don't have my manual here at work but I believe ??177a's (can't
remember if they're Junkers or Heinkels right now!) have a naval
attack of 16 and a higher iniative rating. These planes do great
damage against ships. I have 2 5*x15 strength of them in my current
campaign and one attack will take out half of an ship's rating
including BB's. They never seem to take hits back. This is in
contrast to Ju87D's which, although they do about the same damage,
very frequently take a few hits in the process, especially against
BB's. The 177a's also have a right decent air defense rating so are
capable of working semi independently even before total air supremacy
is achieved.

They did a great job of helping throw the Allies back into the English
Channel last night for D-Day. And I want to know why I'm having to
play Wacht am Rhein after taking over the airfields in England in said
D-Day. I slaughtered the Allies. I killed every unit in that
scenario and lost none of my own. Why isn't there a SeaLion '44?...

Still a great game!

Does anybody have a roadmap of what victory levels lead to which scenarios?

The He-177 does have a higher naval attack factor than the JU-88 but was
not available until 1942.
