I'm wondering if anyone has the definitive answer to the difference between these two modes?

At first I thought it was simply the "Alien/Giant Bug" sub-plot - you could either include it in the game, or leave it
out.

But last week I saw messages in this group suggesting that if you choose "Realistic" mode, then a few other things are
also altered....such as wounds (mercs don't heal as much; lose heaps of APs when wounded; even if they are bandaged,
their wounds reopen if they try and move; etc...)

Anyone know the truth? And what are your opinions on this?

Personally, I would hope that these options (if they exist) would be toggled separately. After all, they are quite
different features, and it would be nice to use both if you wanted to.

The only difference between realistic and sci-fi is the aliens. That is it.
I think they provided this option because some people are sick of all these
alien hyped games movies out there (including me). It 's refreshing to
finally fight against real humans with real weapons not like some retarded
photon lasers...
