WARNING - SPOILERS - WARNING

I have just breezed through JA at medium difficulty and am getting
SLAUGHTERED in sector 1. The best I've been able to do is get a
couple of guys to the island with the buildings on it, but they were
killed there almost immediately. I read the web page FAQ in
desperation and discovered the "infinite supply" problem, but even
with that knowledge I can't seem to make much progress. I've got
about 6 or 7 grenades at the start of the day, plenty of M14s and M16s
and ammo, but I'm still getting stuck like a pig.

Any suggestions on strategy appreciated!

thanks

First of all, just for fun: Hire MIKE!! (If you can afford the 12,000
for one day!) As for strategy, Here's what I did to finish it:
Enter the sector from the east. When your men get across the bridge,
move them through the bushes to the end of the next bridge. As soon as
possible, get across to the main building area. To secure the building, you
need to go through the rear entrance...it's much quicker, and well, I've never
made it through the front.
Okay, now I'd like to compare my skill here...first of all, I chose
the easy level. (WIMP! I know...) By day 24 I had captured all the sectors
but #1. (Maybe that's why I knew nothing about Brenda being kidnapped!) I
didn't get the journal intact, but I found the virus antidote around sector
53. None of my mercs had died, although I had hired and fired a bit. My
final day's group was this:
Dr. Needle
Fidel
MIKE \
Hitman -All three of these hired right before final mission.
Magic /
Ice
Jimmy (Patient during final battle)
Ivan
I only had with me about 2 regular grenades, and a few tear/mustard
gas.

The mercs that you are using! A good marksmanship merc will equal to at
least 3 or 4 poor marksmanship ( including those 70s ) mercs. High APs'
mercs are more useful than those slow guys.

6 or 7 grenades are not enough for Sector 1. What I had brought to Sector
1 usually contains things like this: 10 Tear Gases, 15 - 20 grenades, 10
- 15 stun grenades, 7 - 10 Mustard. Also, need some Explosives to break
down the walls.

Try it harder next time.

I think you need about 5 stun grenades and 5 canisters of tear gas.
I didn't use regular grenades at all. And no explosives, either.

Best Team:
Mike, Scully , Magic, Kelly, Lynx, Ivan, Ice, Spike and maybe Cliff.

Unnecessary mercs should never get fired. It's always better to kill
them before sunset.

ok here goes : what i did,

come in from the south,
send four of your best mercs around to the top of the screen to the right,
have them walk around ther back of the building, down the back wall.
you'll get to a row of bushes. one of them is in the way. c4 it out of the
way. move across the wall over the blown away tree. you'll get to the main
complex with four undamaged guys.
the four guys to the south will provide a small diversion.
doing it this way means that you don't have to go oevr the three islands.
the islands are where your guys get tied up with small arms fire and you
take serious losses. so go around the back.

Here's what I did... Took everything but sector 1. Put 8 guards in 2
and 11 and then put my team in 11 and waited. Wave after wave came
down from 1 for those two days. With my team near the top of the
sector behind rocks, trees, etc... they (the attackers) were made
short work of. By half way through the third day, the attacks had
stopped coming and I sent my boys up to 1. Cakewalk after that.

I don't think there are an unlimited number of enemies in 1, I just
think that there are an impossibly high number of them. Bleed them of
in the way I described and you should have no problems.

You are right. The total number of red shirts (*) in sector 1 is limited
to something like 100.

I replayed sector 1 a few times with the help of cheat editors (Oh the
shame... Thought of changing my name... ;-). In one game, I staged my
team outside the long corridor and had a duck-shoot as the red shirts
came out one by one. Near the end of that day, my team returned to
camp and counted 98 kills! The next day, I sent in my team again
looking forward to another slaughter, but there was not even one red
shirt left in sector 1.

(*) how come there are no red skirts in JA?
