Getting close to the end of a 'good' game of CTP and BOOM!The AI Entity I'd
built revolted resulting in me losing half my cities (plus the National
Shield wonder) to a new 'Roman' faction. It said there was only a 3% chance
of a revolt (with no mention if that was cumulative or not) so I reloaded
the game and lo and behold it happened again in the exact same cities and
the exact same date which I take to mean that once built there's a fixed
date when it will revolt and effectively lose you the game (as all my Embryo
stuff is in the revolted cities).

There are so many things wrong with this game that I thought I'd finish
just ONE game before I threw it out and now I cant even do that. CTP is so
awful, I really am suprised at the level of accolades going out to it. Its
just so bugged and unfinished plus the units/wonders are just not thought
out at all - whats the point of having a wonder that if you build it you
might as well sign your civilizations death warrant?

I loved Civ 1 and 2 but CTP does no justice at all to these illustrious
forerunners - its just a poor Civ II clone with far more bugs.

remember - NEVER EVER BUILD THE AI ENTITY!!!

I cannot believe this! I cant even get rid of it! Cant sell it, cant disband
it, tried to nuke the city with it in - no dice. You cant disband cities
over 4 population either so thats out. There is no way to RESIGN even to
end the game there! You cant use the cheat mode without losing your score
completely - is there a way of altering your savegame to just get rid of the
AI Entity altogether?

To think you can LOSE a game without making ANY mistakes at all other than
building a bloody WONDER! I had it in the bag for crissakes, my nearest
rivals had just got Marines and I was well on the way to building the Alien
Embryo, now my city with the Xenoform lab ALWAYS revolts with my city with
AI Entity in it - absolutely incredibly inept game design there guys.

I'm afraid this has just demoted CTP from just bad to absolutely
unbelievably crap. I am NEVER playing this heap of shit ever again. I advise
anyone out there to not buy this game - dont even THINK about buying it - go
get SMAC instead and at least you can have a game and be sure it'll end
without the game tester's incompetence getting in the way.

Well done Activision - how to ruin completely a good run of games.

Actually, it is quite possible that when saving, the save game
contains the random seed. Which would result in the AI entity
revolting every time you restore.

For some reason, when I was playing, toward the end of the game,
it started going off nearly every turn...I had a lot of troops
and (maybe because of a bug in the program) when I moved one of
my troops into one my cities, I would get it back even if there
were troops already in the city. The only city that would
"fight back" was the capital, but I would conquer it with fusion
tanks easily.

I'd conquer all my cities back, and then conquer a few more of
my enemies and next turn *boom* all my cities revolted again.
After my cities revolted five times in maybe ten turns, I started
to have my doubts about that 3% per turn.

I had a similar experience where I finally started to slog through a
half-way decent game, and then the wonder bug wiped out several turns of
production. That was it. I just lost all interest in playing it again.
Good riddance, and thank goodness for EB.

As for the bugs, the patch supposedly cleared up most of them (but
introduced another fatal display bug!). As for imbalances such as the
AI Entity, go to http://civilization.gamestats.com and download
CDMODV40.ZIP on .

To reiterate what I wrote in another post: It's an excellent
user-created modification of the Call to Power data files that also
includes a very extensive discussion on unit statistics, wonder
effects etc. It shows how badly Activision screwed up with their game
data but also how powerful and flexible the underlying Call to Power
engine is. It also contains discussion on the AI Entity.
