For those who have played this series, I am curious to know which resource
you usually depend on to feed your people. I usually build up a large herd of
cows and have the entire population subsist on dairy products, but I've heard
from others that grain, though perishable and subject to fluctuating supply,
requires much less labor and is much more efficient over time. Any input
would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm taking a guess that you're from the Midwest. Last time we had a
discussion on here about LOTR2 agriculture we found out that we were
all from Kansas or Iowa.:)

My opinion? I strive to use both dairy and grain farming, so that if
one fails the other can pick up the slack. My ratio is generally 3
dairy to 2 grain to 1 fallow at any given time in an area, though that
isn't always feasible due to events. Above all make sure that you
have enough people working the wheat year round; there's a big bulge
in planting and harvesting season but you can lose crops in the other
two seasons just from not having enough people tending them.

I go hardcore grain. I usually have each country producing around +1800
food each season so it works great.

I also go grain but keep 10 cows. They breed like mad and I sell off
all but he original 10 each time a trader comes by, occasionally I
send them to where a trader is going since there is no overcrowding
while they're in transit.
