It seems I can't have both on my team. Which of these mercs have the
greatest potential?
Anyone have a list of mercs with greatest growth capability?

thanks for info

Keep 'em both if you can afford it. Just make sure to assign the to
different squads! Otherwise Steroid will eventually quit.

Something about Steroid anyway, the guy can't seem to shoot anwhere near
what you would think given his marksmanship. He hit much less than half
of his aimed head shots (C7 with all the toys and in visual range) even
after I got him up to around 95%. I busted him back to repair guy after
I got Maddog.

I noticed the same thing about steroid. His marksmanship is over 90 for me,
and he misses all the damn time. I didnt even hire him in my second game.
I think, in the words of Gasket, EYEgor sucks too though.

Doesn't the ability to shoot well not only rely on marksmanship but
also dexterity? I think Steroid has like a 50 dex.

Also, I think the same thing goes for lockpicking. I brought Barry
Unger (good dex - 8x, bad mech, 25) from 25 mech to 47 mech by picking
doors in Sana mona. So I figured that maybe I had it wrong and its
mechanical that makes for a good lockpicker, well I gave my custom merc
(87 mech, 65 dex)) the picks and he couldn't pick the locks as good as
barry.

I don't think it's cut and dry for a lot of the skills.

Yeah, *nod* I too am loosing faith with Steriod. Gave him good stuff to use and
chance after chance to earn his pay but the man's must have a unsteady trigger
finger. Going to cut him when his contract is up.

Low agility and dexterity probably effect shooting and Steroid is low.
He opens most things with his picklock though and his kick has opened
numerous chest too.

Barry has a lockpicking specialty.

Funny you should say that, Barry is now my primary team's mechanic. I've been
having him open every locked door in sight (remember, many shop doors in town
lock *every night*) so now he has a mech of 70. That with his 92 exp, make him
a great burgler (locked doors, traps, mines). And I like how he says 'Groovy'
every time he opens a lock. ;)

I wonder if I'm the only one who has more fun building up lowly mercs than
buying the high priced super-skilled ones. [1]

[1] I have this silly plan for building up Dynamo and Shank to the point where
they are actually useful. That way the they can get the killing shots in on
Queeny when it's time. Maybe I'll have them use dusters...

Yep. Barry rocks. I think the only other locksmith/explosive expert combo
is Trevor. But by the time you can afford him, he'd be too low level
compared to the other mercs.

I would take Igor. Steroid's AGI and DEX are just too low IMHO.

Yeah, but if you take Steroid, he "whip your team into shape damn
quick!"

Of course, when hit he cries, "My skin is punctured and bleeding1"

No way! I love hiring the 'lowly' guys like Barry and Grunty and Buns and Igor,
and then watching them become highly effective "commando-types". Even when they
reach level 5 or 6, they are still nowhere near as expensive as Magic or Scope or
whoever.

Well, everyone's entitled to an opinion... :-)

If you have Grizzly, Sterioid will stay even if u have Igor. Gasket on the
other hand will quit if he is in the same sector with Igor for very long. I
find Steroid irritating. So I opted to just keep Igor in the end. He's cheap
and effective. Stealthy doesn't hurt either.
