* How do I build?
When starting a new map, look around, where are golds? Is there any
germs? Where is the nearest portal? Are you in a cornor? Visualize in
your mind what your working dugeon will be.
In most cases, a single large room is better than many small rooms. So
look around for large open space. I would prefer a 10x20 space in most
later maps. Keep living space and hatchery nearby. I also keep library
and workshop nearby. Zone it to 5x10 each for lair, hatchery, library
and workshop. You dont have to fill it up from the start, but dig it
from start to save time to fortify it. It is not very good for defense,
since you dont have those small passways for traps etc., but you can
drop as much as possible units to saturate any enemies that venture in.
You can also dig long hallways from your cental room and traps enemies
there.
Why? In my observation, a long lair has higher occupancy rate than a
sqaure one, and you need at least a width of 4 or 5 to make good use of
it. A 5x5 is good for first half of campaign, but is utterly inadequate
for later, esp. if you want to research destoy walls. A 6x6 or 5x8
workshop is essential if you want to make boulder trap or magic door in
finite time.
Now dig a single 7x7 room a space away from your main room so you can
put a door to block it from your own creatures. Put training room in
it. You can block the door and keep your units out if you are running
low in gold. I hope you can turn off a room in future versions.
The treaure room is a bit tricky, I normally put one near every good
reserve, and when you dont need it anymore, you can sell it.
Definatively put a treasure room near germs, a face will keep 3 imps
busy all the time.
You can place most other rooms in spare space. You only need 3x3 for
other rooms.
* How to please dark gods?
Dark gods like fly, trolls, bile demon, mistress, maybe others. But
dont sacrafice bile demons twice in a row, or the gods will be angry. If
the gods is pleased 2 or 3 times in a row and preferably different
creatures, the god will reward you.
* How to attract creatures?
Here is a list:
Warlock - library
Bile demon - a 4x4 lair and a 4x4 hatchery (?)
troll - workshop
Orc - barracks
Mistress - torture room
Hound - scavenge room
Dragon - gold (25000+ ?)
(3x3 rooms if not otherwise noted)
Other creatures you dont attract but rather make
Skeleton - prison
Ghost - torture room
Vampire - graveyard
* What are best creatures?
You need warlock, dragon or vampire to research. Some heroes also
research, like wizard. You need troll, bile demon in workshop, serveral
other creatures also works, like orc and hound, but not as good.
My personal favorite combat creatures are orc and mistress. They are
cheap to maintain ( a level 10 cost 300-400), cheap to train (15 and 24
respectively), and trains very quickly. High level orcs and mistresses
are very deadly. Orcs can cast haste and armor, are very fast, very
resilent and very deadly hand to hand, they bring down doors faster than
anything but horned reapers. Use in groups(4+), they can take out a lot
of enemies quickly. They also have a long range attack, but is not as
useful as hand to hand. Mistresses provide long range fire power, they
use deadly lightening, caste haste can teleport. They also have good
hand to hand attack. The weakness of them - dont have heal, cannot work
on lava.
Bile demons are also very good, when trained to at least level 2. They
cast poisous cloud which is an area attrack weapon and has great hand to
hand attack.
Warlocks are expensive to train, but cheap to maintain, and very
powerful when well trained. Unfortunately, it takes forever to train
them to level 9 ( when they have word of power).
Vampires are extremely powerful, but too expensive, and 2 level 10 orcs
surely beat a level 1 vampire. But they make excellent transfer
creatures. (some levels you get 2 transfer creature specials. But you
can transfer only 1 creature!) Dragons lacks hand to hand attack, making
their great strength useless, an oversight? Flies are great scouts but
never train them. Hound also makes great scouts.

And since it's not released yet , we are all beginners.

Anyone posting a reply like this should go back to kindergarden themself.
How can you criticize someone for something as pathetic as spelling? Think
global for a second. Do you have any clue at all how many people read/
post on newsnet without having english as their first language? Get real! As
long as you can follow the post, don't whine about spelling.

oooo.... How rude :)
Personally I found it to be quite interesting and it certainly gave me
more information about dungoen keeper which was what I wanted. I hope
the original poster continues and isn't put off by your unwarrented
hostility, rudeness and superior tone.
I didn't see what was so appalling about the original posters spelling,
I could understand it perfectly well and thats the main thing. Some of
us ahve got E-mail programs without spell checkers you know. Also have
you considered English may not be the posters first language

That was very nice. Thank you. Please do continue.

You do know that since you are using pirated software you are committed to buy this game even if it is so bad it makes
outpost look like Close Combat.

I have seen some release dates... is it July 5th officially now?
As previously stated, my friend received an e-mail from Bullfrog two
weeks ago giving release dates as follows:
UK, France and Belgium.....4 July
United States.............14 July
This, of course could have changed by now, there was even a rumour
flying that it could be released in the UK today, Fri 27 June,
but I have seen or heard nothing so far.

Give the guy a break! He is at least providing strategy tips and
insight into a game, which is a valuable contribution to the group. This
is not the 'correct English grammar' group, or the 'perfect typing'
group. If I can understand what he is writing, then I dont really care
how well he can spell. Given that the Australians, the New Zealanders,
the Americans and the British all have supposedly correct spelling
divergences, I don't become annoyed about people's spelling any longer.

It's out now. I bought a copy at Babbages, in the Burlington Mall,
Burlington NJ. Call information for area code 609, get their
number and ask 'em if they have it if you don't believe me.
They've got about 20 of 'em lined up on the shelf.

I also saw it at "Software Etc." just this past Saturday (June 28). It
was in their "just released" section. This would be the one in Sacramento
California.

If you click the little question mark at the bottom of
the control panel, it'll tell you your objectives for the
level. On the level you refer to it tells you that there
are four wizards controlling the land that you have to
deal with. See below for *spoiler*
SPOILER
The four wizards are located in the four libraries to
the north of your dungeon. Kill them and their bodyguards
and the Lord of the Realm will arrive with his party.
When you eliminate them, the level will finish.
There is no enemy keeper or dungeon heart to take
out on this level.
Hope that helps :)

"Shag me, Stuart Hall. I'm big and naughty."
But it's possible to take out the wizards (capturing and converting them
counts too...) and hear that the lord of the realm has arrived, but not
be able to find him if you haven't dug out some of the gold that I guess
Bullfrog figured for sure you would dig out...
