Here's a question about a old game with a (sort of) new patch.
I was wondering if anyone out there had the following problem, and if
there was any workaround for it.
I recently stumbled upon a new patch, version 2.3, for Frank
Hunter's 1996 game "American Civil War: Sumter to Appomattox." The
patch came out in 1999. Hoping to breathe new life into an old title,
(especially since it finally fixed the memory leakage and river movement)
I eagerly downloaded it.
Unfortunately upon starting the version 2.3 of the game, I immediately
received the following sequence of errors:
1. File Error ACWIII.ENU not found
2. File Error ACWIII.ENU not found
3. File Error ACWIII.EN not found
4. File Error ACWIII.EN not found
5. STOP Exception EResNotFound in module w32skrnl.dll
at 0002666B.
Resource TACWSDI not found.
I was running the game on windows 3.11. (I'm still getting
along with an older PC, hence why I'm still playing older games.)
I have the Sep 95 version of win32s installed.
Has anyone else had this problem, either in Windows 3.11,
or in Win95 or Win 98? Has anyone seen anywhere the two missing
files? I've never seen them in either the original game CD or in any
patch.
"Interactive Magic" which produced the game, has disappeared.
(I can think of a few possible reasons for that.) An outfit called
IEntertainment has a section on the old I-magic boxed games, but they
don't provide technical support on them any more.
Anyway, if anyone has seen this problem and found any
workarounds, or know where one can find the two missing files.
I'd sure appreciate any info.
Thanks,
John B. Curtis
P.S. I hear that Frank Hunter is now working on a Napoleonic game
over at www.matrixgames.com. He sounded like he
was finally getting adequate schedule to do this one right, so

Thanks to all who replied to my query about Version 2.3.
It looks like my problem problem was definitely trying it with
windows 3.11. I was planning on getting a new PC this month,
here is definite incentive. (And John Beaderstadt says it fixed
all the bugs! An ACW that actually works! Wow!)
I found version 2.3 at
http://www.gamesdomain.com/patches/acw_23up.html
And thanks to Frank Hunter for sticking through with
the game right up to 1999.
Cheers,
John B. Curtis

Version 2.3 no longer works on Windows 3.11
