A friend I've been playing strategy games with for many years (starting
with chess as kids and moving on from there) and I tried out D2 a few
weeks ago. I like the game, but he refuses to "waste time on an
unbalanced multiplayer game". The problem is the undead weapon
immunity, especially with the death unit. He will only play the game if
I agree not to play undead, or agree not to make death units if I play
undead. Since they're one of my favorite units I've been reluctant to
agree to either, but I agree they're pretty wildly unbalanced.

We agree that a better balance would be to allow witchhunters to hit
weapon immune units, or to make an artiface which allows fighters to hit
weapon immune units (kind of the model in D&D where magical weapons can
hit weapons immune monsters). Since I suspect we're not the first to
note that imbalance, I was wondering if anyone has heard of a way to
modify the weapon's immunity?

Thanks

Hey David, just have a mage in the party, it'll fry them low hit point
werewolves
easily.....
I'd take any undead team on with my humans, I think the humans are the
easiest to play......, I do have to admit though, If you have werewolves
early in the game you can level up pretty quick by attacking npc creatures
that only do weapon damage......

good luck

My friend could live with the werewolves, but the death units pissed him off;
I had three in a party and finished off a much higher level group of his.
Basically they're archers that cannot be touched by anything but magic, and
who's initiative is higher than the mages. I took out his mage in the first
round, and after he was toast ... he retreated and I cleaned up the next turn.

Ahh, the death units, yeah, they are tough too., but with the right potions
and
spells cast on the humans , are easily defeated , just like the
werewolves......

The undead have to have some plus for playing, the humans can heal, the
drarves
get extra attacks or bonus to damage, the demons can petrify or morph
enemy....
and the undead get the weapon resistance... I think it's pretty balanced....

I'd like to see smarter ai though in the next game......, I can play on very
hard and
easily beat the computer no matter what race I play...., If you watch the ai
, they don't
use the magic spells at the right times, and never level up their troops
high enough
They rather spend all there money on thieves and rod planters .......

Very good game ............but about ready to try Warcraft 3.......... and
NWN.......
