The wells are not working in a predictable way.

I could observe three different ways of well-behaviour :-). The behaviour
doesn't change during a game.

1. everything is fine: areas that are indirectly supplied with water (by
means of a reservoir) are now supplied you can see water in the well's
icon

2. when you keep the mouse button pressed and move the well (probing
mode) you see that the icon becomes waterfilled when moving above an
indirectly supplied field and becomes 'dry' again when moving above a
field that is not supplied with water at all. But when you drop the well on a
field it is always dry, e.g. the well is not working.

3. everything is bad: the well's icon never changes when moved above a
supplied field. the well is not working.

Who can help me?

There are TWO types of water devices in Caesar II. A well can be
placed anywhere and it should supply its own water (it is a well,
after all). However, well's only provide primitive water and your
houses will never develop beyond shacks with wells.

Fountains are the better water source. They provide good water supply
for a radius of 5+. However, to function, they must be within the
radius of a resevoir (I think it's 6 squares). For resevoirs to
function, they must must be adjacent to a river or connected to a
functioning river via aquaduct.

Hope this helps.

In my problem description replace 'well' with 'fountain'.

(Only for the interested: In the German version of the game the fountains
are called 'Brunnen'. The direct translation of 'Brunnen' is 'well'.
A fountain is a 'Springbrunnen'.)

Still clueless,

Christian

OK, with that clarification, there are couple of things that could
cause your problem. First, fountains only work if they are within the
radius (I believe six squares) of a WORKING resevoir. Second,
fountains won't always be hooked up immediately. If you've got the
game paused, they may not funtion until after you've unpaused the
game. Third, even if everything else is OK, the fountains won't work
unless you've got enough plebs allocated to them (always check your
pleb screen when placing fountains).

Hope this helps...

Well, I think the problem might be that:

1) You placed the fountain too far away. Fountains and bathhouse needs
water pipes to work. If you change the main view to the water view, I
believe pink squares means fresh water and pipes, blue means fresh water
and red means no water or pipes. So you need to place the fountain on
a pink square.

2) You might not have enough plebs to maintain the water system. But the
game should tell you very quickly if you need more plebs, so my guess would
be the location of the fountain.

In Ceasar I the fountains had to be connected by pipes to a water source, or they would not work.
Also when a foutain is in a good area, it appears with ripples in it.
