Girder Use in Worms - Help Needed

How do you extend girders in Worms: Armageddon? I can rotate them,
but not extend them. I did it by accident once I think, but now I
cannot do it.

Keep on rotating. After one rotation you get the larger ones, and one more
rotation for the largest ones.
