I'm at the end of level 14, methinks, and I have the option to transfer
these creatures:
L 10 Dragon
L 10 Lord of the Realm
L 10 Wizard (hero Warlock)
L 10 Warlock
L 10 Vampire
L 10 Dark Mistress
L 10 Imp (level 14 has TOO much money)
or
A horned Reaper. I don't have one, I don't know how to get one. I was
just wondering which fought the best in battle. (I've only had a level 10
Dragon in combat and it was. . . okay.)
Thanks!

don't take the horned reaper, it gets upset too easy and runs about killing
your imps. The only way I could please a horned reaper was to leave it in
the temple.
I only just finished the first secret level, and I've only gotten my
dragon up to level 5, so I don't know what he'll look like at level 10.
I've also only had a level 5 horned reaper so far. Here's my take
at present:
1. The horned reaper looks to be by far the best hand-to-hand fighter.
It is very strong and has a high defense. Two big drawbacks though are
it is extremely expensive and it tends to get angry over time. You are
warned that eventually it will lose it and go on a rampage.
2. A L10 Lord of the Realm is a good H2H fighter, with good defense and
spell protection (rebound), and at a fairly reasonable price.
3. A L10 Wizard is similar to a L10 Warlock - about the same cost/stats,
just different spells.
4. A L10 Dark Mistress is pretty nice - lightning and teleport. The
problem with teleport is you don't get to send them where you want.
During possession you only get to teleport back to the lair.
5. A L10 Vampire has the highest skill rating by far, and is an excellent
fighter with plenty of spells. He is second only to a horned reaper in
cost though, and he tends to get in fights with your other creatures if
you don't keep him busy.
6. I don't bother advancing my imps past L3 - just get them to where they
have speed.
My present opinion is that you should take the dragon. It has the second
best skill at research (vampire is best), and is a pretty good fighter.
It seems to take a lot of damage and its cost is quite reasonable. One
L10 dragon in your library right away will give you a big boost on
research, but with less risk of running short on cash should you get
dropped into a low-gold dungeon.
My second choice would be the vampire, again for the early research boost,
but the risk of running out of cash is much higher.
If you don't have a dragon or vampire, take your highest level demon
spawn so that you will get a dragon, unless you don't want a dragon, in
which case I would suggest a warlock (again, for the research).
I wouldn't take the creature that fights best in battle -- it doesn't
look like there's enough difference that one L10 "best creature" can
take on a half dozen or more other high level creatures. You still need
the numbers. IMO, among the researchers, the Dragon is the best bang
for the buck.
You don't get the option to xfer imps.
BTW, to get a horned reaper, you should think about what you found
locked in rooms off the small temple that was obviously set up for you
to take over on the 4-wizards level. ;-)

I think about this question a great deal, so I'll share my thoughts on the
subject. Others may or may not agree, so you'll have to come to your own
conclusion.
There are a few things to consider about the creature you transfer:
1) How good is it in battle?
2) Will it require extra effort to maintain in my beginning dungeon?
3) How useful is it out of battle, especially in the beginning of the game?
On question 1, the Vampire, Lord of the Realm, Dragon and Reaper are the
best fighters of the group. The Vampire is the most durable, because of
his immortality and ability to drain health from the enemy. For sheer
melee damage, though, the Reaper is the most damaging and fastest of the
group. Not only is the Reaper normally faster than all the others (as fast
as an imp), a L10 Reaper can speed herself AND cast slow on the enemy.
Beyond that, the Dragon and the Lord of the Realm actually are pretty close
in terms of combat ability. The Dragon has ranged attacks, but the Lord of
the Realm can take more damage, can Rebound spells cast at him, and hits
more often in melee than the Dragon.
For question 2, the Reaper is the clear loser. Only very rarely will your
level start with a temple to keep the Reaper happy, and a L10 Reaper will
not be able to train. Sleeping Reapers only get angrier, and eating and
paying Reapers doesn't make them happy either. You have to keep a real
close eye on a transfered Reaper, since once they get annoyed enough they
go beserk and attack any creature that comes nearby.
All of the other creatures don't require much maintanence, though you'd
have to make sure a Vampire is kept away from the incoming Warlocks. This
means you'll need two lairs to start if you plan on building a library
right away, since you don't want the Vampire and new Warlocks rooming
together. Of course, the level 10 imp requires the least maintanence,
costing you no money, food or space at all.
Lastly, for question 3, the imp is ok, but not necessarily the best out of
combat. The Dragon and the Warlock are both equally good at researching in
a library, so either of them can be put to work right away. Others can
also work in a library, but if Warlocks work in the same library with
"non-researchers" they get upset and take pot shots at nearby imps and
others. Once a workshop is built, you can put any creature you like in it,
including the Lord of the Realm. Level 10 creatures can make alot of money
building things that you then sell.
So what's my suggestion? I'd go with either a Dragon, a Lord of the Realm
or Vampire. The Reaper is a bit of a hassle, and doesn't do any
significant work out of combat.
If research is your top priority, go with the Dragon, who can do lots of
research really quickly. The Lord of the Realm is reliable, doesn't fight
with your other creatures (except a Reaper), and can make do in a library
or workshop in between combats. Vampires are moderately good in a library,
but the extra space is a problem, and they will not work in a workshop at
all. On the other hand, Vampires are the best creatures to have in
Scavenging Rooms, and a L10 Vampire is very, VERY hard to kill off.
My own preference is usually to go with the Lord of the Realm for aesthetic
reasons. You can only rarely get more than one a level, so a L10 Lord of
the Realm is "one of a kind". Also, I enjoy slaying my enemies with what
was once an icon of nobility and justice. Imagine the noble warriors'
mounting fear and disbelief as they battle one of their own greatest
champions, all in my own foul name. I watch with amusement as his armored
form walks effortlessly through their ranks, leaving them alive only enough
that I can imprison and torture them into mindless obedience to my will.
The irony is sweet, indeed. :)
(Well, that's MY opinion, anyway.)

Then imagine what it would be like to have an Anti-Avatar on your side...
a corrupted version of the ultimate icon of good :)
I've done that, and I can say: the Avatar rocks :) How I got one, you ask?
Well... I must admit, it's not quite 'legal'... I cheated by modifying the
script file of one of the secret levels, so that my reward after finishing
it would be a L10 Avatar instead of a L10 vampire... Now, whenever I need
him, I just play that secret level and transfer him...
I used him for the last few levels (17, 18 and 19, the latter of which is
still waiting for completion) and he *definitely* tipped the scales in my
favor - I wish I never discovered how to get one before I finished the
game... :( With him, the game is just too easy; whenever I encounter some
monsters/heros, I drop my Eviltar (tm) on them, and he wipes the floor with
them...
