Any insights into this problem are greatly appreciated. (I got no reply
from CGW's email site)
Thanks
Same here, on a new Gateway 400. On mine, it's almost like trying to get a
car started, it keeps spinning up but it's like it can't find the root
directory and keeps retrying. Actually did get SC demo installed, and the
Commandos demo, but keep having problems with the disk not reading and of
course the SC demo needs a file off the CD. Commandos didn't, so was able
to run it. Also wanted to check out Freespace, but not gonna mess with it
anymore since half the disk-misreads cause a blue screen o' death and a
reboot.
Thanks for the post though, thought maybe I just had a freak bad disk and
might get another one, but won't now since it seems prevalent. Why throw
another $8 at it, when I could go to CompUSA this week and get SC full
version for $30? :-)

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've tried 2 different StarCraft
demo discs on 2 different Pentium computers, and both have the same
symptoms: plug & play feature doesn't work, slow read time from the CD ROM
drive, and a "critical error" message reading when installing thru DOS
(which worked halfway, then had to abort).
Any insights into this problem will be appreciated. CGW has not replied
back to me yet.
Thanks
iG

I also get a general cd-rom read error... An older Dell 166 dimension xps
system (although I can't remember the cd rom drive)
