I *love* the concept of scenarios, since they let us tinker
with the toys that are normally restricted to the endgame. However,
just loading up the WW2 scenario without the benefit of several hours
of attentive "civ-nurturing" can be a bit daunting: all these
fully-grown cities out of nowhere (almost as overwhelming as adopting
a teenager). Can anyone offer some quick and dirty tips on how to
plunge in? Are the Axis or the Allies more accessible?

Well, I personally enjoyed the challenge of playing the Spanish or
Turkish armies at first...it's a great way to watch the war unfold
from a much less initially complex situation., although you certainly
will be frustrated in most of your military endeavors. After a couple
of run-throughs, watch the world powers whelp on one another, I tried
moving up the ladder to commanding the Soviets in their "Great
Patriotic War". I did quite well fending off the treacherous Germans
until they and the Allies signed a peace treaty! Arrrgh! And not a
bit of help from dear Mr. Churchill as the German panzers all turned
eastward....=-(

Diplomacy seems to get quite ahistorical in the WW2 scenario.
Heh, the one time I played WW2 I did it as the French, I guess I was
feeling masochistic :)
Anyway, I cease-fired right away with 'Dolf and got him bought him off
to attack Russia. Sure, Stalin declared war on me, but he was on the other
side of Europe! And it got Germany pretty dern tied up with Russia.
I was feeling cocky after I got myself allied with Churchill, Stalin,
Franco, the Turks, and Neutral Dude.
But then U-boats kick America's ass in the Atlantic, and Churchill
signs a peace treaty with Germany that holds the rest of the game!
Then, Stalin goes ballistic, and ends up declaring war on EVERYBODY.
Then again, I guess this isn't so far off, is it?
France is a fun country to play though, especially if you steal Berlin
after the Russians almost capture it and defend it against TWO armies. Heh.

I try the Russians. :-) They have PLENTY of production base, but
practically no tech. So you have to move all the armies over quick, amass
a huge army near Poland, then before the Axis settle with the Allies,
blitz into Poland, nab all the cities there, put 5-10 units into each
city to hold it, add fighters as cover, then send emmisary to Allies to
see if they will lend you tech (or let you buy them). Axis counterattack
will be pretty bad... Bombers and tanks, but if you can hold the cities
and Allies give you rocketry... :-)
