It would have helped if you had read the original post. There it clearly
says.."I've been playing the DEMO". This means that he/she has no manual.
My manual is at home and I'll try to remember to look it up for you.
Not that I helped more, but I will at least try.

It isn't there, but was put in a text file with either the patch of the
expansion pak, IIRC.
Seeing how he's playing the demo, probably not.

Remember the Visions adventure spell, it will tell you the exact number.

Check out the help file, press F1 during the game to get to it if
you can't find it otherwise. I'm pretty sure that the demo came with
the help file. The full game has a nice manual with this info too.
There are also lots of useful web sites for the game for more info.

I'm going to be quite unhappy if HOMM4 doesn't have an option
"use numbers instead of descriptions". I mean, really, I don't want
to have to either memorize what a bunch of words (all of which are
near synonyms for "many"!) 'mean', or find the right page in the
manual ever couple minutes (or just guess and hope...).

Red sky at night, prepare to die!
Red sky in the morning, UFO warning.
I understand that. I'm saying that you should have the option
of replacing "lots" with "10-25" (or whatever lots is...), not with
the exact number. I'm not asking for any change whatsoever in the
information available to the player, I'm just asking that you not have
to refer to the manual for definitions...when numbers would serve the
purpose just as well.
Aha, that's probably why I can't find it. I'm playing the mac version.
There have been some listings of the definitions here. I assume they're the
same for HOMM2 and HOMM3?
/Per
After a several games (or maybe a a pack of games :-) you learn the names. For
that matter, in heroes 2 I found that even before I knew the gradations, I had
a pretty good feel for the breakdown after only 2 or 3 games. It isn't as bad
as you may think. The only annoyance was from Heroes 1 to 2, where they changed
the gradations (a couple new levels were added.) H3 uses the same as H2.
I just reviewed HoMM3 on my site, I gave it a score in the high hordes...
