I've enjoyed most of the real-time strategy games since the early days of
Dune 2, but Age of Kings is the best of them all! My friends and I have
been playing this game for the last month, both single player and up to 6
people on a LAN for multiplayer action. All I can say is "WOW!". The
formations and aggression stances for groups of troops are the best ever
implemented and they enable expert players to manage large battles with
effective military tactics. 13 unique races each with some unique units
mean endless combinations of conflicts and strategies. This game has the
perfect balance of resource management, economic growth and military
expansion. The graphics, sounds and music are all top-notch. The variety
of maps are all very nice. The military troops themselves are all finely
balanced and combinations of troop types are needed to wage effective
battles.

The only thing on my wish list (besides auto-farming) would be to assign
map locations to hotkeys (like TA) so I can quickly bounce from one part
of the map to another. That's it! Everything else about this game is
wonderful! I played some Age of Empires and it was allright, but the
sequel Age of Kings totally blows the doors off the competition.

Back to the battles...

There's one trick I use to emulate this missing feature: I place a
peasant next to (or inside) places of interest, i.e. the location of
my troops, castles, towers etc. This way, I can cycle though those
areas by using the 'idle peasant' key *and* have someone who can fix
my structures or siege engines.
