Master of Magic: How to become an "undead" Wizard

By Dan...@aol.com, 4/22/95

I know of many "hard" ways to play MoM but this one takes honors...

Faqtoid:
Building a settler reduces the building city's population by one so
you can destroy one of your own cities [without loss of fame or
combat--it is suggested to sell off your buildings first] by
repeating as necessary [the last few settler units will take nearly
forever if you don't buy assist their production].

So, I immediately asked myself, "self, what happens if you try this
on your fortress city?" Well the creators of MoM thought of this
and ixnay the last settler when it would build and wipe out your
fortress [it does, however, take you down to an even 1,000 pop].

So I decided to build another city and kept my fortress humbled by
building settlers periodically. Eventually the raiders came to my
fortress and banished me. Naturally I declined MoM's offer to give
up at this point. Now, with only one city left I used the faqtoid
to psuedo-raze it. [Naturally I'm keeping my mana pool at zero to
eliminate any chance of finishing Spell of Return].

Excellent! I end up with two Heroes [B'Shan and Zadron for a noble
net of plus eight gold per turn] and

*NO CITIES WHATSOEVER* [rotfl]

I trudge off and conquer a neutral city, razing it of course.

I go take out some ruins.

I laugh my head off when my lone opponent casts Armageddon--he's
not hurting any of my property!

Until the poor bastard casts Spell of Mastery I don't see how he
is going to beat me. [The computer AI does not go out of its way
to attack your field units, prefering to menace your cities]

I save my game and deliberately get my heroes killed... great, now
I get to next, next, next, until bozo thinks to cast SOM. Hmmm, I
guess I'd need really unbeatable heroes to play this way.

In conclusion, if you want a hard game, why don't you try playing
without having units, wizard spells, or cities to worry about.

Just you and your favorite Heroes. Your opponents can not defeat
you except by SOM or eliminating your Heroes so things aren't as
impossible as some hard ways to play.

Of course if you get tired of having no cities you can choose
not to raze one and perhaps even mana feed your SOR to put your
fortress there.

Enjoy.
